I was wondering if there are any issues surrounding the import of a pedestal on a mount done in RSA to the USA.

Let's say for example the pedestal was made from sleeper wood.

Is this a problem or will it import without issue?

Though not a pedestal I did bring wood back from SA. If there's no bark or seeds involved you should be ok, you should also have the Latin name available. Come to think of it there is a list of prohibited woods. I can't for the life of me think where I found the list though-must have found if on google.

not much help, but better than a poke in the eye!

A friend of mine got his mounts from a RSA/TZ trip within the last 6 weeks from Lifeform taxidermy in RSA. One of the mounts was a very nice (29 1/2) Nyala on a pedestal ( railwood I think).Aside from the usual shipping/paper work BS, nothing special about the getting the pedestal into Canada. The Three crates came in via CGY and the local import broker( Bert & Mary Schmidt), got them shipped up to Ft. Nelson for $500 via Roseneau Transport

as long as the wood has any kind of finish on it. It will clear customs with no problem or has been heat treated

Thanks guys. I will ask about the finish or heat treat.

I like the looks of sleeper wood and think it would be a great choice for a pedestal.

Any other suggestions?
