Has anyone on this forum had their taxidermy done in Namibia. A friend and I are planning a PG hunt next year in Namibia and would like some recommendations for a taxidermist in Namibia, preferable Windhoek. We will be shipping our trophies to multiple places/countries and figured it would be simpler to have all the taxidermy done at one place. Thanks for any input/replys.

LogicBean,

I toured a couple of studios while in Namibia last April and decided to have my trophies mounted at Taxidermy Studios. The first place we visited was the taxidermy place just outside Windhoek as you go to the airport. I can't remember the name off hand, but they were marginal at best. A friend used them a couple times in the past and the last time took over 18 months to get the trophies. The quality was also marginal. From a distance they looked ok, but up close you could see hints of wax (or whatever they use) around the eyes and in the nose of almost every animal. I am by no means an expert in how taxidermied animals should look, but I've seen lots better. Further, the folks there were friendly, but didn't really go out of their way to talk to us either...

We also went through Taxidermy Studios in Otjarawango. It is a ways away from Windhoek, but they were clearly the better of the two! The owner, Mr. Beyer, warmly greeted us and was more than happy to show us around and answer any questions. His shop was clean and the staff were wearing proper protection equipment. An added bonus is that they have their own tanning facilities which will hopefully speed the turnaround time up considerably. The trophies also looked much, much better in the display room. I won't know for a couple more months how well my trophies turned out in the end, but Taxidermy Studios was clearly the better choice in my opinion. I would wager shipping to and from there will not be a problem from anywhere in Namibia to anywhere you wnat them to go. They don't have a website, but I'll be happy to send you their email address if you wish. They can give you way more details than I can! Good luck on the trip! If you need a gun porter, I'm available . Hoping to go back to Namibia for a leapord someday soon!

I had Kudu and Gemsbok shoulder mounts done by Otjiworongo Taxidermy north of Windhoek. They did an excellent job and handled the packing and shipping to the states in a first class manner.
