So what's wrong with the base? Most people want to see the animal. When I see a base of sagebrush, willows and weed filled, I start looking for exposed seams the taxidermist was trying to hide. Another point to consider is that most of the guys who have such a trophy have them in game rooms. A game room can only hold so much and the simpler and smaller the base, the more room for other mounts. I have one hunter whose game room now looks like a K-Mart Blue Light Sales Room. He has dozens of beautiful animals in there but it is so cluttered, it's difficult to see one particular mount. To that mix, I'm doing a 400 pound lifesized lioness right now that will stand under a leopard on a suspended branch with a dead steinbok. The base for that lioness will only be just large enough to support her and I'm not planning much more than Jerry has on his MINUS the "bumps"

Nice job Jerry. Very clean, and I like the simple habitat. It does not distract from the mount.

The base is appropriately sized. I usually prefer walnut to oak and I like the look of raised or recessed panels on a furniture base, but that is just personal preference. A weathered barn wood furniture base would also look good as it would compliment the color of the skin. The gold tones of the oak on this base do marry well with the color tones on the lower leg skin.
