Hopefully someone can provide me with some remedies. First I live in Korea, so having a local taxidermist fix the issue isn't an option.

The ears on my duiker mount are splitting at the tips. Here are some pictures.

Is there anything I can do to repair this damage myself?

Thanks

If there was an ear liner used it may have been too large for the ear skin causing the skin to pull away, splitting the ear as the mount dried. If that section of skin had drummed (pulled away from the liner under tension) it will be difficult to get any kind of glue to hold it. You can tell if the inner ear skin has drummed by lightly pressing on it. If it moves there is a pocket of air between the ear skin and the liner material (ie, the skin has pulled away from the liner as it dried and shrunk) You could try to carefully dab super glue into the split and clamp it closed until dry, being careful to keep the glue off the hair.

Sorry to tell you this but more than likely this is not a candidate for a quick fix and may be an indication of underlying problems with the mount (such as poor tanning, not splitting the ears out all the way, using a liner too large or the wrong shape for the ear etc..). Good luck to you, I hope you can fix it to your satisfaction.

take some 5 min epoxy put it in the open space, clamp it together until it cures. That's about the best your going to be able to do.
