RopatiRust on skull?
I just received shipment of my trophies from Botswana. I decided to mostly do European mounts and do the whitening myself. The skulls had ID tags that were wired through the orbits and there are rust stains on the orbit bone. The peroxide isn't touching it.
Any recommendations?

The Artistry of WildlifeCan be a real you know what trying to get out that rust. Anything you use can make it worse or a mess. Lots of options, rust-out, 30-40% peroxide paste etc...
Myself, I'd get some white stain killer shellac like Kilz Max primer white, stuff will cover up anything and paint it with a very small brush stippling it and blending it and covering it up. don't use a lot maybe do it twice and use your artsy side to blend it...

RopatiThanks for the reply. I've been using the peroxide paste (40, from the beauty supply store).
Maybe I should just look into the cover-up. The challenge will be trying to match the color.

BNagelCrafts store paint -- antique "color" worked for me. You are filling the holes with Apoxy clay, right? (Hi, Grafton!)

The Artistry of WildlifeThat will work if you skulls aren't white white but KILZ it first to truly cover and seal that rust

meteHas anyone tried oxalic acid ? I've tried it on other things succesfully but not on skulls.
I've had excellent results using CLR removing rust stains from 2 DIY Euro mounts. One application worked beautifully on one, the other required 3 applications. Peroxide afterwards evened up the colour.
