Hunted the Consuelo Ranch 9/29 - 10/1. Weather was fantastic unlike the week before when the hurricane came through and closed the roads. As I made my way to the ranch I drove around the barricade that said the road was closed. I didn't drive 2000+ miles to get detoured. This was the only road to the ranch. As luck would have it the road was fine and the signs were left from the prior week. The ranch is absolutely beautiful and the accommodations were more than adequate. I confirmed the accuracy of my .300wby that night prior to the hunt. 9/29 and we are up early and out the door. The bugs that early were ferocious. Good thing Mike had some emergency bug spray that sent the little buggers packing. We drove the ranch roads glassing the far hills for aoudad while guide Tyler (Taylor LOL) and the cook Dave scouted another part of the ranch. Late morning and Tyler & Dave spotted an nice chocolate colored Aoudad ram. Mike & I made our way to them. The group consisting of about 10 or so animals were spotted about 220 yards up the hillside. The main ram stayed out of sight behind a Mesquite tree only showing the occasional horn and forehead. No shot. We played this game for about an hour and decided to force their hand. Tyler made a hike to push the group into the open. It worked! The big Aoudad ram walked right to left about 20 yards and stopped broadside. Mistake! The Mark V barked and the ram was hit. The ram was obviously hit hard but was walking slowly so another shot was made and the ram was down. Another successful hunt. Done in the first half of the morning on the first day! The ram was field dressed and the four of us carried it down the hill to the truck. We made preparations for the ram to be taken back home. This was not an issue as I had recently purchased a 200qt Coleman cooler and it was packed with the animal and plenty of ice. The next two days were spent at Tyler's family's ranch where the four of us played pool and did some wing shooting for doves. I can't thank Tyler and his Dad enough for the wonderful accommodations. If you are looking for an honest and hardworking team of hunting guides then Mike McKinny and West Texas Hunt Organization should be your first and only consideration. He has many hunts and ranches that allow you to tailor the hunt to your preferences! I will be back hunting with them in the near future. Oh and the return trip to CT was LOUD! The muffler on my truck broke off 1 hour into the 30 hour ride but I didn't care as nothing was going to ruin my vacation. Bob R.

Welcome to AR.

Hope you enjoyed your stay in Texas.

Where you hunted is some big, wide, wild and wonderful country. Like the song sez, the star at night are big and brite.

That is a very nice ram.

Did ya'll by any chance take any measurements or weight.

Aoudad mixed with pork make for some fine summer sausage. We typially do Jalepeno cheeze summer sausage.

Don't be a stranger.

Best

Thanks to all. Yes I enjoyed my stay in Texas and will be back very soon. Even satisfied my desire for a pair of Lucchese 1883 Crocodile boots! Been to Texas several times. Have an uncle buried in Dallas. He used to own a barber shop in Dennison TX.
