Good news, given that Vermont slashed the number of permits last year....

AUGUSTA — Maine wildlife biologists on Wednesday proposed increasing moose permits for the 2018 fall hunt by 20 percent after gathering encouraging data on the herd’s survival this winter in northern Maine.
The proposal would raise the number of moose permits to 2,500 from last year’s allotment of 2,080 – a reversal after four years of sharp decline. Moose-permit allocations had plunged from 4,085 in 2013, largely because of concerns about moose survival rates because of winter-tick infestation.

Moose permits for 2017 are cut just 3 percent
“A 20 percent increase is very conservative,” said Judy Camuso, wildlife division director for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. “We’re doing it in the core moose range in Maine where we have excellent survival among cow moose – around 90 percent.”
The 420 additional permits this year would be allotted exclusively in Wildlife Management Districts 1 through 6 in northern Maine, an area roughly bounded by Houlton, the northern boundary of Baxter State Park and the northern end of Moosehead Lake.

Been donating for a very long time. Hope my few bucks every year helps them manage the moose. It's a good cause, but I long ago gave up any hope of a permit.
Another year, another donation.

Having gotten 3 permits over the years, maybe I should be buying lottery tickets instead.

Not me. I drew and took a great bull outside Masardis in '03 so no disappointment here. After the required 2 years off from applying, I've been putting in since '06.

Anyway, I have red stag in Romania scheduled in September and grouse in Vermont for October; makes for a full autumn.

Maybe Next year.

Yes my father pulled a area 2 bull tag for September. It was his 17th year applying. Hopefully I will draw in a few years. We have the same amount of points. I will be shooting on his tag this year and will pass my tag on to my son when I draw.
