Suggest a hunt for my wife and I

Hey All,
Looking for some ideas on a hunt that my wife and I could do, short of going to Africa. Looking for something that is closer to our budget than Africa right now, and although we'd both love to go and the hunt prices are pretty reasonable, the airfare and all the extras for 2 just is a bit much right now.
So....looking for some suggestions on hunts that would work where she would be the shooter and I would be the observer. Something that would be a nice vacation (anywhere, including the north) and hunting a species that I cant get in Alberta...
Would love to go to NZ, but I think prices are out of range as well....any other suggestions??

What about a pronghorn antelope? They are fairly reasonable as far as hunting costs are concerned, antelope are typically abundant, and the hunt is normally not too physically demanding. I did a hunt in Wyoming two years back and really enjoyed myself. I got to see plenty of antelope, was able to be very picky about which one I shot, and had probably the most laid back relaxing time I have ever had on a hunt. I even recommended the outfitter I used to someone else on the board and he enjoyed himslef as well. I think for the price an antelope hunt can't be beat.

Antelope is good....but can be done easily in Alberta here....

If Antelope was going to happen, it would be with Kirk Kelso for an 80+" goat......but I have thought about going with him and getting a monster....

They are a fun animal to hunt no doubt...

A hog hunt in Texas or somewhere else down south would be a nice warm climate escape from winter.

Southern Hog hunt....you can shoot a bunch. OR you can go further north and do caribou. Not many of those if any in AB are there?

Are you talking rifle hunt? Archery? Muzzleloader? Pistol?

I'd go for caribou in northern territories before I'd do a hog hunt but that's me.

Because you're in AB, you're asking a tall order for some other species....you're in one of the best areas for game variety.

Have you considered Red Stag in Argentina?

Are we talking big game only? What about waterfowl? Upland birds?

You could come south and hunt some different species of wild turkey.

One species you certainly do not have that would be a heck of a good hunt is the little Coues whitetail in Arizona, or Mexico. That is certainly an affordable option. Roughly $3000 for a hunt like that.

Ever thought about that species?

Why not go to Hawaii and hunt some rams? Maybe catch some peacock bass or go on a sea fishing expedition while you're at it? When the hunting is slow, you always have the beach!

You have a lot of great hunting in Alberta so something really different is in order.

Ocellated turkey in Mexico for a hunt suggestion.

-or-

Peacock bass in Brazil or sailfishing in Panama. I can help you with all. Smiler

Personally, Africa is best, I do have some reasonable 2X1 packages in Namibia available for this summer yet.

Might I suggest Brady Ranch in Okeechobee, FL. My wife is handicapped thanx to a stroke and lung cancer. The ranch supplies both top notch food and lodging and their specialty is trophy Axis deer though you can name a dozen others along the way. When you're done, West Palm Beach is an hour away. If you want to fly in commercially, they have airport pickup. It was a great getaway for both of us with no stress and just fun hunting. The have a website at www.bradyranch.com.

Two come to mind, one I have done with my girlfriend and the other I am thinking about doing with my 12 year old niece.

The first is in Argentina. There are a lot of things to hunt. I would suggest to include capybara. You can have premium shoes and a purse/handbag made from the hide. What a blast to hunt at night! I did a little write-up in the bird shooting forum so I'll just link there:

It really was a great couples hunt. Take a few days to tour Buenos Aires. It is a very nice city, romantic too. Home of the "tango". Women love it.

The second is a gator hunt in Florida. A couple days/nights hunting combined with lots of nearby sightseeing.

Took my wife and stepson there a couple of years ago. Nice place and reasonable. We head for Namibia in May. Total of 5 heads and all expenses was $5800US that was for 2x1 and 10 days. But then double that for heads etc. Air was $2800.

As usual just my $.02

I'd highly recommend an antelope hunt. Weather is generally mild, you can sleep in a hotel, game is plentyful, you don't necessarily need to get up extremely early.
The animal itself is beautiful.
Success is very high.
I have hunted them numerous times with bow & gun & think they are a blast.
Oh, the meat, if properly handled is very good.

If I wanted to take my wife on a great hunt I'd take her to Alaska and hunt Caribou in the Mulchatna. I'd book a wheeled-plane hunt probably with Lake Clark Air, and I'd look at mid-September timeframe. If she'd go I'd be booking it today!
