I’m trying to find out some information about Bakken ND. I’ve been contacted about work at a cryogenic gas plant. Just looking for general information about the area.

Does the town have a Chamber of Commerce and/or web site? NRA Life Benefactor Member, DRSS, DWWC, Whittington Center,Android Reloading Ballistics App at http://www.xplat.net/

Bakken is not a town. It is the name of the Oil Field. There a dozen plus small towns in the area which is roughly 60 miles south of the Canadian Border and 60 miles east of the Montana Border. I would call a real estate agent in Williston, ND give them the address of the plant location and ask them for recommendations of towns in the area and then research those towns on city-data.com as a start. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

The job will be outside Watford ND with Weston-Belfinger. Any info on the area is appreciated. I know a couple years ago people were getting raped for housing.

Watford might be on or near the reservation? I can't remember. The folks in and around Williston are the best there are. I have never met a finer community. The hunting and fishing is fantastic. True the oil booms have brought in some urban troubles, but North Dakota generally has wisely dealt with it as a state and municipal governments. If I weren't an Alaskan I'd almost definitely be a North Dakotan.

we have family in Williston. People are still getting raped on housing. Last I heard (2018) Walmart was paying $45 an hour.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Walmart was having to pay that. I know a couple years ago a 2 bedroom trailer would go from $4-5000.

wal mart wan not paying 45$ an hour. they did go up to 12$ though. Warford city is there because it was on a cross roads, but It blew up big time with all kinds of growth in and around town and they finally put in a by-pass. it isn't on the Rez but it's right close to the south of it. not too long ago they had the largest population of homeless kids enter the school system. I doubt it's like that now so much since the boom went bust and it's in 'maintain and produce what we got mode' now waiting for the price of oil to go up again.

I called my friend in Williston yesterday to shoot the breeze. He mentioned that unfortunately there's been a family death. This morning I googled a Williston nursery and called them to see about having g a small fruit tree delivered in memory. The nice owner lady said yes she knew the family and was very saddened by the event. She'd played basketball with my friends younger sisters and used to give one a ride to practice. The lady went on to say she'd be happy to make arrangements, a delivery and help with a selection. I call out of nowhere from Timbuktu Alaska and that's what I got. Typical or usual in my experience. Nothing Dakotans are just neat people.

As a teacher who worked in a boom and bust area(SW Wyoming) I can tell you that kids don't have to be homeless to be labeled "homeless". Basically students in any type of shared or non-permanent housing(hotel/motel, etc.) can be labeled as "homeless". Schools use this designation to ensure that they are providing additional support to students that may be in need. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

Housing is going to be your biggest problem. There's very little of it, and the prices for it are *very* high. The farther east you go, out of the oil fields, the cheaper the prices get. Are you just going for yourself, or are you bringing family with you? If family is coming, consider putting them up in a house around the Minot area. It will be cheaper, nicer and you can drive home on weekends. If it's just you, you can rent a room in a "man camp". Some of them are just shacks (most of the really bad ones of those were driven out and cleaned up though), but some of them are pretty decent. Find out if your prospective employer will include housing (for you). If so, it will probably be in a "man camp". I don't work in the oil fields, but my work does take me in to that part of the state frequently. Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions. I don't get on the forums here very often, so may miss it if you post here. Si tantum EGO eram dimidium ut bonus ut EGO memor
