What would you all think if a certain or better yet your state issued registration permits for your favorite big game species for some it might be elk or deer. I guess I should give a little insight into what a registration permit is, when the state does not meet it's qouta for a harvest for a certain area they issue a registration permits lets say they set a qouta of 30 animals to be taking off the registration hunt once the qouta is met the stop the hunt, these registration permits are free and you apply on-line and a few minutes later you print the registration permit, that the state issued to you... Anyhow lets say they issue the registration permit for an area that is known to produce trophy class animals you know animals that you know that will make the book. So you get this registration permit take off and you see the biggest Bull elk you ever layed your eyes on, you know he is a 390 class bull probably over 400, you take a good rest with your favorite gun touch the trigger all you feel in the slight recoil. You look up to see this animal walk a few feet an fall over... You are excited you have dreams of mounting this magnificant animal you snap at least 50 pictures. Then you pull your hand saw out and start sawing on one of the antler and cut it off... So my question to you? Could you do this... Shoot a monster bull or Deer and cut off one of it's antler to destroy the trophy value of the animal. You all probably ask what state does this? I would be interested in some answers cause I think this would lets us know who the true hunters are and who is just out thier to trophy hunt and shoot antlers... Not saying thier is anything wrong with shooting a animal with big antlers. But me I'm out to fill the freezer and if I stumble into a big animal then it is my lucky day... Oh the state that does this is Alaska for Moose in the Yukon-Koyukuk river area it only open to resident hunters and folks go up thier and pass on 65-70 inch bull moose, becuase they can't bring themsleves to cut the palms on a 65-70 inch bull.

If I was meat hunting, I would want to shoot a 1 to 2 year old female. In my experience the quality of the meat is better.

I don't think I would want to desecrate a trophy animal by defacing it. I think I'd snap a picture to show I had made a successful stalk and then go shoot a 2YO cow if that was legal.

I'm assuming it works the state keeps doing it.. It is debated all the time in Alaska... They do it for Musk-ox as well... The only way to do the moose hunt is to have a good boat... Logistic wise thier is alot involved, But I'm going to do it.. So I can say I did it, just one more piece to living the Alaska dream..

This particular hunt is bull only so now cow moose.

On this hunt doesn't matter how big the moose is it could be a 30 incher still have to cut one of the palms off... Alot of guys end up doing this shooting a young bull and whack the palm off. As I said in a previous post no cow moose on this hunt... Me I think it is a great opportunity to fill the freezer if you have the right eqiupement to do this hunt the main thing a boat.
