Predator Xtreme - Wolves Wolves, The Rest Of The Story Predator Xtreme Judd Cooney, Oct 2007 An interesting article about wolves and the future of our ungulate herds. Judd lists some hard facts about wolves in WY from a professional, but does not name that person. A few of the facts are summarized below. • The wolves reintroduced in 1995 are not true wolves, but hybrid dogs/wolf/husky and are not at all like the gray wolves that originally inhabited WY. These wolves are much larger as well. • Original gray wolves had millions of bison to cull the old, sick, but the decimation of these great herds put the wolves into conflict with settlers and their livestock and were reduced. Original wolves were said to have lived and traveled in small packs. It is interesting to see the released Yellowstone wolves travel in large packs and kill lots of healthy livestock like a pack of wild dogs. Here is a recent example: On 8/18/07, WY W.S. investigated 18 dead sheep on a grazing allotment west of La Barge, WY. W.S. was able to confirm numerous sheep killed by wolves; however, some of the remaining 18 dead sheep were too badly decomposed to determine the cause of death. These remaining depredations were listed as probables. What do we really know about the wolves released in 1995?

That has been my argument from day one. THe wolves released here are not true Wyoming wolves. They are a subspecies, much the same as turning loose an Alaskan/Yukon moose in wy. Or a Tule elk, brown bear, or black tail deer and Wyoming game laws clearly state, no non-native species of big game can be raised privately or released into the wild. Plain and simple.

How credible is a source if they wrote an article in October of 2007 and we just got to Sept? Did I miss out on a month somewhere? Is this guy saying that the wolves we have now are wolf hybrids? My understanding is that these wolves were caught in northern Alberta...not brought in from Bear Country. Now what little credibility he had just went with the dodo bird. As for the sheep killings, that's nothing. Lions have been known to kill over 100 sheep in one night (come on Kudu, as the self proclaimed lion expert I thought you would have pointed that out) Do you by chance have a link to this article? Go look at the rags at Walley World and you will most are written and mailed a month or more ahead. Error #1
I don't believe I stated "bear country". Your wrong again. Error #2
We're not talking about lions! Error #3

Not self proclaimed, but my son is! And I can back it up, photos or video. I have found over 120 still photos of lions he has treed, and 28 videos, and of all, only about 20 kills, how is that for hunting and not killing. After last spring and this fal, his bear total is almost 40. I will say it again, next time your in town, stop over and I will show you pictures, or videos or both! Other than that I have no reply for your smart ass jealous comments.

Oh Kudu, I'm not jealous. I'm very familiar with lion hunting with hounds, and for someone to say they treed 50+ cats in one season in one hunt area, well, lets just say I've got some beach property near Wamsutter I'll sell you. As for Snapper's blowout...I'm just curious that is all. I would rather take a biologists word for it, that some bullshit you believe out of a Predator Xtreme mag. Can't says as I buy crap off the rack at Wal-Mart. I guess you can't take sarcasm either (the Bear Country remark)!! I just have doubts that wolves caught in the middle of BFE in northern Alberta would have any husky or German Shepherd in them, that is all. As for my expertise, I've got a degree in both wildlife and recreation...how's about you? MG

It really bothers you doesn't it? But laying your jealous attitude towards anyone that hunts out of state, or out of country,or for a trophy instead of a doe or fawn as you do, you need to get over it. I have nothing to prove, especially to you. But I can prove it, unlike some BS stories of yours. But it is not me, I only occasionaly chase hounds any more, it is not fun to me, not enjoyable. It is my son, and there again, I have nothing to prove what he has done, and does, day in and day out, 200 to 250 days a year. And if any houndsman worth his salt, in Wyoming, that hunts that many days can't find and tree 50 cats, then they just aren't trying. Or like you, don't know shit from shinola!

Here is another great example of wolves killing just the old, weak... On 8/13/07, ID WS confirmed that wolves (5?) killed 41 sheep (34 lambs, 7 ewes) and injured another 15 sheep (8 lambs, 7 ewes) near Josephine Lake on a Payette National Forest allotment, NE of McCall.

Domestic sheep or wild sheep, If they are domestic I hope MG didn't lose a girl friend in the frenzy, if wild sheep, that is a great loss. Sorry for hijacking your thread, I won't lower myself to MG's level any more!

Heck Kudu and Snapper...here is a lion hunt right up your guy's alleys! [IMG:left] [/IMG] I could care less if you go hunting in Wyoming, Texas, or Russia for that matter. Good for you...I guess if you want to kill livestock, circus or zoo animals behind a escpae proof fence then that is your problem...hope you're proud of them trophies!! Filled up the feeder yet? Why not put a radio collar on the big one's just to save you some time?? MG
