That is a whole lot more excitement than I would have paid for!!!!

If it had been a leopard, there would have been a lot of DNA material left in the cave.

The hunter who went into the mine wasn't too bright - he stretched out his neck to try to see the cat while his revolver was pointed at the ground ! But he knew the cat was right around the corner !!

Damn - that was close.

We had a similar situation many, many years ago on our hunting lease - were having cat problems and set a claw/bear trap. Got a big Tom, but he broke the cable loose.

The cat guy tracked him into a canyon and into a cave (drag marks from the trap). The cave was only wide enough for the guy to get into. It was so tight, he had to draw his pistol before going in and keep his shoulder out in front of him. The cat, which hadn't been shot and was pissed because he had a trap on his leg, charged. He emptied the whole clip (45 ACP) into the cat and it rolled up dead right onto him.

The canyon is now called Panther Canyon on the USGS map.

Sometimes dogs are smarter than their trainers and should be respected. Hell of an experience that luckily turned out OK.

My thoughts exactly! Thankfully everybody came out of that one unscathed but c'mon dude, you need to "pie" that corner off!!

Might be a bit of 'gear queer' left in me from the Army but I'd say that situation makes a strong case for a rail and light on that wheelgun.

The hunter who went in the cave after the lion, is Sean Sander from Bailey, Co. He's my partner here in CO, and yes, he's not too bright. But, one has a better chance of getting hit in the head by an airplane engine, than getting attacked by a Mtn lion, so all was well.

Graybird you and Snellstrom likely know the location of the hunt!!!!!

I will say this hunter is one lucky SOB! I also think he needs to get himself a bigger gun or at least change to a different type of bullet etc. A Leopard would have skinned both of those cave dwellers in a heart beat. The dogs did a great job and end result was a mighty nice mountain tom.

Yessir. Not sure I'd be jumping the queue to slither in there had it been a leopard.
