Okay, I very recently (yesterday) started reloading. Im not totally new to the concept, and Ive done my homework. So far I have two loads; both use CCI 250 magnum rifle primers, both use 180 gr Nasoler Partitions, and both have an OAL of 3.366". One uses 70 grs of IMR 4350 and the other uses 73 grs of IMR 4831. Anybody got a pet load they use, or have used, in a 300 win mag and had good luck with?
I prefer the 200 grain bullet in the 300 Win Mag. Either the Swift A-Frame or Nosler Partition.
My most accurate load is with H-1000 powder. With this powder and the 200 grain Swift A-Frame, my rifle will deliver consistent 1/2 MOA groups if I do my part.
In addition to H-1000, powders that seem to work well in the 300 Win Mag include Reloader 22, Reloader 25 and IMR7828. I use Federal Match brass and Federal Match primers (Magnum rifle). You may need a 26" barrel to get the most out of these powders.
Good luck.

I got a Ruger #1 in that caliber and it came with loads that were the Rem 180 Corelokt and 72 gr of imr 4350 and WMLR primers. The seating depth is normal. It chronographs at 3000 fps. It always shoots into about 1 MOA. Maybe it would do better if I bothered to use bench rest techniques but it kicks so hard that I just hold on.
Many of the loading books and www.imrpowder.com show the load to be 70-71.5 gr max so watch out. If it were a 30/06 I would try harder for groups but if you carry a heavy gun like this you might as well load it to the max.
I don't have much use for it. It's a want and not a need.

I use a 200 gr Grand Slam in my 700 BDL over 70 grs of IMR 4831 and a WW Large Rifle Magnum primer.Shoots well at about 2950fps.I have used 180's over 73 grs of IMR 4831 for 3100fps.
As a general load I use a Hornady 165gr. BTSP. 78.0grs. of H4831SC with a Win case and WLR primers. in my gun it is at 3.335" OAL. and a Vel.of 3188fps.
my experience has been that each guns likes something different so I'd pick a few bullets you want to use and load them with the fastest powders listed for them then shoot them over your chronograph. when you find the ones that give the most consistent velocities then i'd play with seating depth, powder charge and such.when shooting for group don't make the same mistake i did, clean the hell out of your barrel frequently.
I also recomend the nosler 200gr partition for use in the 300 Win. mag. I prefer winchester cases, federal mag. primers with H-1000 powder. H-4831 and IMR4831 also work well, but I never had much luck with IMR7828. Be careful and work up loads slowly if you use H-1000 powder. I have found the maximum listed load in the Hodgdon manual to be the absolute maximum load in two different 300 Win. magnums.

In my Blaser I use 180 grs Nosler Ballistic tips with 70.0 grs of 4350 with a Remington 9 1/2 m primer. It shoots to the same point of impact as 180 grs solids and partitions. The accuraccy is scary and consistent. I am planning on shooting 200 grs for all around shooting, probably the Swift A frame

David, I just posted a response to your other post, but felt like sending this one as well.
You are lucky to live in Troy, that is a great area. I live in CA, but went hunting a number of years back in your area.
I had a friend who grew up in Kallispel and we went to stay with his parents. We hunted deer and elk in that area around Troy, Libby, etc. We wound up in the Yak and I shot a nice four point mule deer with my .338 WIn Mag, but did not get to shoot at any elk. (Pure BS shot on the deer, over 400 yards with a .338 Win Mag shooting 250 grain Sierra BT bullets.)
Keep after them, and good luck. R F Neat country and lots of nice people up there. I really enjoyed that trip.

Mauser98's load sounds a lot like my own favorite .300 Win. Mag. load.
I like magnum primers, Winchester cases, and Reloader 22 behind premium 180 gr. bullets best for all-around use in the .300 Winchester. You'll notice that the reloading manuals vary a bit as to maximum charge recommendations. Some list 75.5 grs. of Reloader 22 with 180s, and other list 77 grs. as max., so work your way up carefully.
Expect velocities to be between 3,000 and 3,100 fps. out of a 24" barrel.

I've been having good luck with winchester cases and IMR 7828. However, try non-magnum primers with this combination. I haven't had any ignition problems with std. primers and my groups shrunk quite a bit.
