| If you want a moose and aren't fussy about a large trophy, newfoundland has some pretty economical hunts.Caribou can also be included on some of these hunts. If a huge trophy is you priority it will be hard to beat northern B.C.I hunted up on the prophet and muskwa rivers myself and saw moose in the 48" to 50" class every day with a few into the mid 50's.Everyone in camp took a moose and a six point elk on the hunt.Prices however are not cheap for this kind of hunt. |

| Thanks stubblejumper. I hunted the "Rock" a years back for Black Bear, taking a fair size one, and I saw several Moose. Its a whole other story but I've already paid for one Newfoundland Moose hunt, I just didn't get to go on it I think if I was going to do an Eastern Moose hunt it would be in New Brunswick, with the guy I bear hunted with last June. But then you have to go through the old tag drawing thing and on top of that he tells me most of his Moose are in the 36" to 40" range. I'm thinking if I'm only going to hunt Moose once why not spend a little more and go out west for a 48" plus moose? |

| stubblejumper, I see your from Alberta. I just happen to be looking at the 2004 Edition of APOS right now. Anybody you'd recommend? Ever hear of Ken Steinhauer with Albert Native Guide Service? www.albertanativeguides.com |

| I have heard of him but know little about him.I did kill my biggest moose(54" spread) in alberta but it was killed in a special limited entry hunt on a military base that is not open to non residents. In all honesty though, the moose densities are much higher in northern B.C. than in alberta and your chances of killing a big moose would be much higher as well.If I was a non resident booking a once in a lifetime hunt for western canada moose I would head for northern B.C. |

| Hey Mark,
If trophy size were of serious importance, I would save my money and go to The Yukon. There is one good outfitter up there in particular who I don't happen to book for. You should talk to them anyway.
Best,

| You originally specified a western canada moose but if you want the largest moose the alaska/yukon moose is certainly the largest and the yukon or northwest territories would be great choices for a huge trophy.Be aware that costs are quite high in the best areas. |

| Hello Mark, I'm probably going to book a Moose hunt in SE Alaska for 2005. In fact, I'm actually calling more references today. But, I'm pretty much sold on the hunt already. The outfit only offers two Moose tags a year, and 2004 is booked. They're shooting 50 inch moose, and using boats on the rivers. They are taking some huge Black Bear, and even Glacier Bear in the area as well. The price runs at $5500, with an extra $1000 if you take the Bear. I thought to book both hunts, but my wife cannot make the trip. She teaches school and the timing will not work in her schedule. I thought to take my 20 year old son, but he's at the age where I don't know what he's going to do from one day to the next. So, I'm stuck with going it alone or finding a partner. I really looked and wanted to hunt in the Yukon with Widrig Outfitters. They are shooting lots of 60 inch moose and the occassional 70 inch moose, using horses on some really remote country. But, the prices have gotten beyond what I will pay for a moose hunt. 2004 prices are above $11,000, and 2005 will go beyond $12,000. They are shooting some nice Mountain Caribou and Grizzly Bear in this area as well, and the Caribou is included in the price. I wanted this hunt really bad. But, everytime that I weigh the money, I keep thinking what a fine hunt I could have in Tanzania for the same cost. Tanzania wins everytime. / |

| Wayne,
Thanks for the info. Did they take a moose? If so what size? I guess if they are going back they must have enjoyed the hunt. Is there anyway you could give them my email I'd like to know more about this hunt. |
