Spent the day putting up tree stands. Once spot I chose looks very promising, I can't wait to give it a go on October 1st! I have not seen any signs of fresh rubs or scrapes yet where I hunt but any time soon they will begin. I set up near some very active trails coming out of some bedding areas. Are all of you ready for deer season? ~Ann

Ann.....after Africa hunting the north woods is very different..... I still do it and still love it....but the deer look more like impala or springbok. I hope you find one like an ele.....but not likely. Not many deer with trunks. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Vapo, I never tire of hunting, no matter the size of the animal. It's the challenge I love. Plus, at least here, I can put the meat in the freezer! I am not likely to see big antlers, I normally end up with two or three does. Lots of deer in Michigan but FEW are "trophy" bucks. I've only killed two bucks in my life, both little 6 pointers. Good luck out there! ~Ann

Yes, Michigan hunting is VERY frustrating. There are only 1 1/2 year old deer it seems, and no body is doing anything to make it any better. I've seen many spikes, 4-point young bucks that I would not think about shooting, but chances are someone else will take the buck within that week. Very depressing. Good luck this year, I have yet to hang any newer stands this year, I'm behind the ball because of football season. Hopefully some of my old standby spots will produce.

Gibson, I hear your frustration concerning yearling deer! I passed on so many last year I didn't think I was going to shoot anything. I ended up with one doe, so old her molars were worn down to the gum line. Now that's mature! I know there are some good bucks out there but they are very nocturnal due to so much hunting pressure. Good luck to ya! ~Ann

Nice buck Vapodog, hopefully I'll see one like it this year either from my tree stands here in Eastern NE or in my crosshairs when I hunt in the Pine Ridge section. BH1 There are no flies on 6.5s!

I was thinking today that deer season was just around the corner, mid Nov. here in the show me state. It's always a good time with the group I hunt with. Most of the group, myself included, has a hog hunt planned in mid Oct. I'm looking foward to that also. Mule deer in the Rockies next year!

ElCab- I was just thinking mid November is a long wait! But that is when our two week firearms season starts. October is archery here but I also built a ground blind in a dead fall just for the firearms season. Good luck on your hog hunt! ~Ann
