Can anyone recommend an outfitter who hunts the Wilderness area around Jackson for elk. I was looking at woverine creek outfitters, but it looks like ownership has changed hands over the last year and I haven't read anything about the new owner yet. Thought I should look into a couple others as well. Any info would be appreciated.

Try Non Typical outfitters.

It is owned by Robb Wiley.

I hunted with him last year for mule deer, and was very happy.

WCO is a good outfit.
Ryan Lakovitch, Is the owner as far as I know.
I hear he runs a good camp.
Give him a call and get the 411 for your self.

If you call this time of year you will prob. get voice mail. He is prob. in the woods.

One of the best for years and sounds like Kerry knew who he was turning it over to.

Ryan Lakovitch and Robb Wiley are both good outfitters. Robb is especially good for big mule deer and Ryan's area is hard to beat for big elk.. Two others to talk to are Todd Smith of Bear Basin Outfitters (I just guided a deer hunt for him) at www.bearbasinoutfitters.net and Bob Barlow at www.barlowoutfitting.com

Todd has a camp in the Hoback. The hunter I took last week had previously killed a 32" and 39" buck out of the same camp, but around 165-170 is probably average. Bob has a day use permit so he can tailor a hunt depending on your needs, but you stay at a hotel or B&B.

You should give Harold Turner at Triangle X Ranch a call 307 733-2183. They hunt the area east of WCO in the Teton Wilderness along the south boundry of Yellowstone Park. They have been hunting that area for 50 yrs and really do a good job. If you are looking for a true wilderness hunt, why would you truck hunt with Bob Barlow. Pack into the mountains and do it right. Daryl.

Go on your own! Skip hunting wilderness and stay on national forest and do-it-yourself.
