| I understand they work very well. They open at low impact speeds better than the standard Hot Core bullets and they hold together better at the higher impact speeds. They can't, however, be expected the perform like the best of today's bonded core, or X style bullets. E |

| Ere, why can't one expect a bullet made for killing game to operate as well as a bonded or x bullet? Please appreciate on your remarks. If the bullet goes in one side and out the other and leaves something dead between, what is lacking in this performance? For that matter, the old Remington corlokt is still a helluva bullet as long as you don't try to hot dog the thing at some rediculous velocity that is far beyond anything needed for hunting. |

| Tod, I'd be interested in hearing more. Do you think they are tougher than a Hornady??
How was the accuracy??
What makes you say "awesome performance"
I'b be interested in using them in 180 gr in my 30.06 for moose/elk |

I bought the Mag Tips for my 416 to use as practice for moose hunting. Plan was to switch to Barnes X's for hunting. Speer MT turned out to be a real great bullet, usually retains 85%+ when dug out of logs, etc. Shot a little over 1" groups, good enough for me. So I hunted with them, and come across a deer while moose hunting. Thought it was broadside, was actually slightly quartering towards me. My shot was from 70 yards +/-. Bullet clipped back half of left lung, smashed liver to pieces, ans went through some guts, exited rear of the right rib cage. Deer made it about 15 bounds, and tipped over. Not one drop of blood, it was all pooled up inside (liver shot). I was impressed the bullet opened up and did that much damage on such a small animal. The next day, I took a moose at 130 yards +/-. Bullet entered behind the right shoulder, centering a rib, through the lungs, and broke the shoulder blade on the off shoulder, then exited. Moose made it 10 wobbly steps, then flopped. There was lot of blood, and the entrance wound was big, due to the rib being hit.
I don't know if they are as good in the 7mm & 30 calibers, but I know they are great in the .416 cal. I think they should do pretty well, but I can't say for sure, I've never used them myself. |
