30378Weatherby Question
Does anyone know why Weatherby quit making stainless Mark V actions? Was there an issue with them? Remington, Savage, Browning all have them. Winchester produced them up to their closing. Your knowledge is appreciated.

L. David Keith30378, if you find out, please post your findings. My .280 is a Mark V stainless. Hopefully there are no safety issues. Thanks, LDK

Hey 30378, I guess I could've posted that for you... There is a 30378 on that site so I thought that might be you... We'll see if anyone there has an answer to this question...

30378Yeah, the other guy is 30-378. Looks like a fairly new board. Not crazy about the fact you have to register to read the threads.

In all honesty 30378, I don't recall registering to read threads but I've been on the board since shortly after it started... Yes, it is a new board...
As the one reply noted that it's about money, I added that it's probably more like business economics reasons...
Weatherby has two Mk Vs that they do in stainless... It just may not make sense to make a completely stainless action in this case...
I'm betting that the other manufacturers out there that still do all stainless actions (and there are plenty of them) probably make 50 percent or more of their rifles in stainless... Makes more economic sense for them to do so...
Just a thought on my part as we might be looking for a functional reason for something that was pure economics...

30378I have put the question on several boards, Accurate Reloading, Weatherby Board, Benchrest.com, and Varminthunters.com with only speculative answers. Bottom line, here is the deal for me. Buying a Weatherby, yes I want a good deal but I also know what I want and I am willing to pay for it. Buying a Weatherby you expect to pay. Prices are ranging from $800 to $2500 for the rifles and that is not even from the custom shop. Cost control should be of VERY low priority to Weatherby. Bring back the stainless actions!!
