___ xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

With his deer hunting rifle? Funny reading this story. I used to hunt the Mendocino national forest a lot. It is big country. I would be interested to know what this guy had with him for survival equipment. It seems that an emergency whistle, signal mirror and and emergency bivy sac(the ones that are the size of a grapefruit) would have made life MUCH easier and would have helped him get rescued quicker. Food for thought: If he had a SPOT unit he would have never had to spend a single night injured in the woods. It is well worth the $100 initial cost on the $100 annual fee, IMO. I'm glad that he made it out OK. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. Good reminder to check your emergency gear before every season, thick fog and a head injury can make it very easy to get lost even in familiar territory. I have always made fun of the guys who pay for satellite services on hunts trusting a map and compass should get me out of trouble if the gps quits working. But recently hunting with a couple of guys who I worry might have a problem in the field we switched to the rhino gps units that allow you to find your hunting partner if he needs help.

Tuff old coot, were loosing more of them every day. I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

I am 71 and always hunt and fish alone. A big +1 for the SPOT. I always have it with me in the field. Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA

His nephew posts on Calgun.net and said that his uncle was doing fine. His uncle is anemic and has issues with balance. He said that he fell down while hunting and hit his head, knocking him unconscious. When he woke up he was surrounded by fog and got lost. He had 7 rounds of ammunition with him and wound up shooting 3 squirrels for food. He also killed and ate a couple of snakes and ate algae/water plants from a nearby stream. I'm beating a dead horse, but a SPOT(or similar) would have had him out in a few hours. and the cost breaks down to about $.25 a day....
