I go to Boulder every few weeks on business and was wondering if there were any good over-the-counter tags for deer or elk that is within a 2 hour drive?

Would have to be 3rd season this year.

There hasn't been an OTC deer tag for any unit in CO for more than 15 years. As to elk, you could try just west of Ft Collins on Cameron Pass. That can be pretty good and it would be right at 2 hrs.

But be advised, anything within 2 hrs of the front range on public land is going to be hammered unless it is 3 or 4 miles from the road.

What if I expanded my criteria to anywhere in Colorado?

I'm not looking for a high success hunt, just the ability to get outside and if I see something, the ability to take an animal. If I went out and didn't get an animal, I would not be disappointed. I would like to see some animals, though Smiler

If you get desperate you could drive to Nebraska for OTC tags.

Thanks!

If it was me, I'd look on the DOW website and see if there are any leftover cow tags for the northwest corner of the state around the Craig area. That would be about a 5 hr drive from Boulder. That area has the biggest elk herd in the state. You could buy an OTC bull tag but your odds of killing an elk are much better with a cow tag and the cow is better on the table than the bull will be.
