Wolves Suspected in Death of 22-year-old Ontario Man

Last week, the body of 22-year-old Kenton Joel Carnegie was found near Wollaston Lake in Northern Saskatchewan mauled to death by what is suspected to have been wolves.

"All of the injuries discovered in the autopsy are consistent with animal bites. But you can't completely rule everything out until the investigation is complete," Heather Russel, spokesperson for the RCMP told CBC.

Although the type of animal bite has not been confirmed, suspicions run high that they were that of wolves. Tracks were found near the body, and locals have been reporting a growing number of close encounters with wolves.

Carnegie was working in the area at a mining plant at Points North Landing. His death follows on the heels of a verified wolf attack earlier this year involving Fred Desjarlais, who was attacked by a wolf in the same area. Fortunately Desjarlais survived the encounter by fighting the animal off with help from others.

Wayne Galloway, an outfitter near Wollaston Lake told CBC reporters that he wouldn’t at all be surprised if wolves were responsible for Carnegie’s death. He claims to have seen an increase in the number of wolves in the area and a decrease in the numbers of their prey.

Scientists say that just one verified instance of wolf attack to be found is surprising. For two incidences of wolf attack, especially one resulting in death, to occur in the same area is an astonishing anomaly.

The few documented wolf attacks here in Canada, most of which have occurred in Algonquin park in Ontario, have involved habituated wolves ...

y'know what? These wolves are extremly habituated. The oilfield workers in these areas have nothing better to do than feed their sandwiches to the wolves and bears and they do it on a continual basis. I've seen some great pics and videos taken of local wildlife by these guys. I'd also say that one attack and one "semi attack" certainly doesn't make a trend. I'd also have to say that the wolves and bears in some of these areas are so used to being fed that they behave like the ones we all have seen in tourist areas.

It's not correct to think that these animals are acting like they should in the wild. Now you can all jump up and down shouting kill the wolves!!! But the people who have REAL LIFE experience in the bush know that the risks are very low and we don't get overly concerned about this shit.

Habituated Wolves...
We spent a lot of time following these wolves and trapping, darting, weighting etc.

I'll take the advice of the folling two officers.

Woman Recovering after Wolf Attack
Tim Mowry / Fairbanks Daily News-Miner / July 12, 2006
An Anchorage woman walking along the Dalton Highway was chased down and bitten twice by a wolf Friday morning in what wildlife officials are calling a "very rare," but not unprecedented, attack.

Port Moody kayaker fights off starving, predatory wolf
Larry Pynn, Vancouver Sun Wednesday, August 01, 2007
A kayaker's life-and-death struggle with a hungry wolf on B.C.'s remote north coast -- the second wolf attack in the province in seven years, and the first thought to involve predatory intent -- has prompted a conservation officer to warn against taking wolf encounters too lightly.

"This was a predatory wolf attack," conservation officer James Zucchelli confirmed in an interview from his Bella Coola Valley office. "That fellow was perceived as a prey source. He was attacked with intent to eat. The wolf saw him and took off running at him."

I spent some time years ago, up in Flin Flon Manitoba, when some family members moved up there working for the Provincal Government...

Met people up there who were outfitters...

One summer a couple of guys got lost in the Bush up there, and they found their broken down pickup, but never found any remains of them.. after they had been lost for several weeks...

The local outfitters I knew, casually were saying.. if they are gone more than 3 days, then they were probably attacked by wolves and killed, and then either wolves or bears ate the remains...

It was an often enough occurance they didn't seemed overly concerned...

of course I was also told, that anyone was an idiot going into the bush, even in a vehicle.. without carrying a firearm of some sort... without one, you are just asking for trouble was their philosophy...

on another note, from the Oregon Fish & Wildlife Web Site, they posted this stupid notice in Bright Red, concerning our state's stance on wolves vs your dog...

Remember, it is NOT legal to shoot at or attempt to injure or kill a wolf even if it is attacking your dog.

How's that for an example of a state being run by lefty liberals????
