I liked the video, but I don't think he can justfy shooting that bear. From the AK game regs "You may kill game animals in defense of your life or property if you did not provoke the attack or cause a problem by negligently leaving human food, animal food or garbage in a manner that attracts wildlife and you have done everything else you can to protect your life and property." "The meat of a game animal that you have legally taken becomes your property, but you may not kill another wild animal to protect the meat unless the meat is necessary for your livelihood or survival. In this situation you must do everything possible to protect the meat (ie., proper storage, scaring the scavenger, etc) before you may kill the scavenger."
Seams to me that hanging meat outside a foot off the ground is the equivalent to bear beating. The fact that he had to shoot a bear the week means he should know that he has an attractant and is not doing anything to correct it.
If I did that where I live I would be in trouble. A few years ago just down the road some one shoot a bear that was repeatedly raiding his dog's food and he got charged for taking a game animal in a closed area because he left the food on his front porch.

Here along the Yukon in Ak, shooting bear around someones house is considered common sense and reality. Of course the nearest law enforcement is over 200 miles away. Kinda nice, people have to work out their problems rather than calling the cops on everybody. Game violations are considered very low priority offenses. You got to really work at it to get arrested here; our VPSO has survived many years, good fair guy. We did have a couple bootleggers get busted a few weeks back, but they were really causing the Indians to get dangerous to themselves and I think the village asked the state to do something.
I like the rural life. No crime, no locks on anything, grow and harvest most of what you eat, only fill up truck every few weeks, and no local organized govt with all those regulations that make life so much better & no property taxes; life here is good. People here have old trucks and new snowmachines & ATVs. Peace of mind, open country, and no state police. You can't imagine how great that is. Anyway, if we did have law enforcement, all the Indians would be in jail and their families would be hurting.
We are within 100 miles of arctic circle and ain't going anywhere soon.
