MADDOG, a longtime and respected contributor to the AR forums and an Alaskan hunting guide, recently had 17 guns stolen, including a .416 Rem mag and a .375 H&H -- guns that are obviously critical to his livelihood. Others came from his father and are the kind of item you simply can't place a value on. (There's a post elsewhere on this board in the classifieds) His guns were well-protected in a safe, but the police note that this was the work of professsional thieves. This is something that could happen to any of us and is obviously devastating. MADDOG has not asked for help. I have not spoken to him about my intentions. But I have dealt with him before and know that he is a hard-working individual just trying to make an honest living. So, I'd like to ask board members to show their generosity and, if you can, help out. If those who are able to help would contribute a few bucks, it would add up quickly and help Marc get recoup some of his losses. Since it's a Saturday, I can't create a special bank account for this. But I have cleared out my business PayPal account. It costs you nothing to use PayPal, but it you are paying with a credit card instead of a bank account, it costs me 3 percent. That's fine. I will pick up all of the PayPal charges so that Maddog gets your entire contribution. I will make available a printout of all the transactions for anyone interested (in case any of you think I would pocket any of the $$). I will then send the money directly to Maddog in a money order so that he can use it for whatever he'd like. My e-mail for the Paypal pymnt. is: btomek@gvec.net Please use Maddog as the memo line (not guns as paypal is a little funny that way) I will start with the first $25. My wife is matching that, so we have $50 for starters. Anyone else care to help out? Thanks in advance... Also, if there's a better way than I propose for handling this, I do welcome your suggestions. Sorry for your buddy's loss, truly, but to speak plainly and honestly: I'm hardly about to send a guy I don't know from Adam a check because he got allegedly ripped off for some guns. First off, he should have been smart enough to have insurance for those items. He had the funds to own a large safe and 17 expensive firearms, but couldn't part with a few bucks a year to insure them? Second, it's not like you're representing a fund to build a clinic for kids with cancer. A guy got ripped off. Sucks, but happens every day. Hell, I've been ripped off before, but never thought to beg money off strangers from an internet hunting site to pay for my losses... I very much respect your trying to help out your friend, but I dunno', something about this just strikes me as...not the kind of thing that tugs at the heart strings, the kind of cause people would donate their hard-earned funds to. I mean, I do some charity work, volunteer time and whatnot, but this is one 'cause' that won't see a dime from me. That all said, good luck to your buddy getting his guns back. Oh, and just curious: assuming he does get some or all of his irons back, you are planning on sending all the bundles of cash you got donated back, right? ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Oh, you heartless guy, KG. How can you expect somebody in this day and age to accept the consequences of their own actions, or lack thereof. Why, the if the nanny state won't help the guy, then Joe Average needs to step foreward and do it. Can I send Cnadian Tire money? All skill is in vain when a demon pisses on your gunpowder.

As to point one: I blame society. As to point two: yes, absolutely. I've changed my mind, and to help lessen the agony of the victim will myself be sending a coupon for free* fries from Burger King. *Valid with the purcahse of a Biggie Meal and XL coke, naturally. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Tell you what. No one wants ANY of YOUR help. If you check the classifieds thread, it's all been taken care of by the TRUE and CARING AR family. Your tasteless posts were unwarranted. If you didn't want to contribute, fine. Move on to another thread. But don't try and raise your post count with this garbage... Then again, I'd have expected this from a couple of you anyway. just my .02. Bobby Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

Does that mean that you don't want the free fries coupon then? That's gratitude for you! And BTW, when you get around to untangling the knot you got your panties in, you might consider that had you come here to ask folks to keep a lookout for the stolen arms, many would have, no questions asked, myself included. Instead, now you're upset, apparently because no one decided to take a stranger's word (yours) and just fire off a check to you. Interesting perpective you've got there, guy. Good luck with the anger management. KG P.S. I do hope that your buddy gets his stuff back. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

A list WAS published. https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2711043/m/837106946 Check your facts before you spout off. And then you wrote: "...no one decided to take a stranger's word (yours) and just fire off a check to you" https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2711043/m/935108946 Wrong AGAIN. Plenty of folks did. Again, please get the facts first. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

Doc-A couple of years back, I was selling a rifle and noted that I did not have any photos and would not have time to get any. I pride myself on honesty, and my reputation for such among fellow shooters has afforded me a long list of friends (many of whom I've never even met), and many of them will send me an item as soon as I say I'll take it -- and long before my payment ever gets to them. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a $15 set of dies or a $1500 rifle. I reciprocate. It's called earned trust. But with that particular rifle, some pestering poster kept PMing and e-mailing every couple of hours and requesting numerous photo angles, a close-up of the serial number, a copy of the sales receipt, a copy of my SS card and a copy of my driver's license so he could "consider" the purchase. (He probably wanted a note from my Mother as well...) I kept ignoring him (the rifle sold quickly anyway), and he FINALLY went away. Over time, I forgot who that was. Now I think I remember... If it makes you feel better, you win, OK? As a suggestion, however, you may want to consider that if you're hitting people up for money, nasty is probably a poor choice of attitudes to sport. Also, I'd not pick April Fool's day to hold out the 'can you help a brother out' cup. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Well, Kamo, if you'd look, you'd see that at 12:46 P.M. YOUR TIME, it was posted. And that was on the 31st, no less. That was 11:46 a.m. CST. Boston is a bit east, but there's not a full day's difference in our time -- it's only 60 minutes. I don't have a problem trusting other AR members. I split an order of 300 RUM brass with a member in Alaska where he trusted me with the original order, then I sent him his half after I weight sorted them, sent a huge box of bullets and other reloading gear to a member in Montana, told him to look through all of it, make sure he wanted it, then send me a check. And most recently, I mailed a .308 stainless match grade barrel to a member, a preturned blank, for his project and waited for him to send payment. I requested a police report and safe photos, not for proof that you are a man of your word, but rather, to satisfy my accountant if I were to make a financial contribution that can fall under "charity" when I explain to him the circumstances. I initiated the effort because I wanted to help, not to benefit. But I guess all of us don't think that way. Thanks anyway...
