i dont believe that the 2506 ackley is as efficient as the 6mms or the 280. alot of people dont go through the hassle of owning an ackley for only modest performance gains. i was interested in building one about a year ago and finally found someone who had one, anyway he was rather dissappointed in how it turned out, and would not do it again. he thought for alot more performance the 257 stw or 257 weatherby was a better way to go. i am currently building a 257 weatherby on a blueprinted 700 action, 28" match pacnor #7 contour barrel. email me some time and i will give you some ballistics for this cartridge that are unreal. the loading manuels are a bit off. esp. with the new reloader powders. good luck mark

In my opinion it is not worth the effort. On the other hand, I think the 257 AI is a great cartridge -- probably the best of the 25s.

Had one and liked it. I basically got 257 Weatherby velocity with quite a bit less powder. I was getting 3475 FPS with a 100 grain Ballistic Tip. You have to be prepared to do the fireforming and all that that intails (extra loading, brass that doesn't fully form, etc.) but I got about 150-200 FPS over standard 25-06.
