Hey guys what gr bullets are you haveing the best results with on game. My dad bought a 7MM STW and he also found a gun shop going out of buisness in his area. So he wants to stock up on bullets for it. I have 0 time with a STW so I can't help him. He is fanatic about accuracy even in a hunting rifle. So we are looking for accurate, and on game performance. Hopefully in the same bullet.
By the way he will mostly be shooting elk in CO.

After seeing the b.c.'s on the 175gr Partition I'd be looking in that direction if I had a 7mm anything.(other than the true 7mm .277 caliber he,he,)

The 175 Nosler shoots well in my 7STW, and would certainly be good for elk. The 160 would also be adequate for elk, and would be a bit more appropriate for deer-sized game. To get the most out of either of these heavy bullets, you'll need a super slow powder like WC 872, or perhaps RL 25 or H870.

The last thing I shot with my 7 STW was a small whitetail with a 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. Accurate, and OK for whitetails, but this is certainly NOT an "all around" game bullet!

My STW likes the 160 gr. Barnes XLC so well it screams at me if I try to shoot anything else in it. My next choice would be a North Fork, then a Swift A-Frame, then a Nosler Partition. I would reccomend you trying all the above and let your barrel tell you what it likes, it will if you let it. Good shooting.

I have had great luck with 150 gr Swift Scirrocos. Exellent accuracy. And also has a bonded core.

Happy Hunting

X-Ring - With the potential velocities that you can push with the STW, you should also consider the Partition Gold. I have the same situation with a 7mm Dakota. You can exceed the designed impact velocities of lesser bullets. The Golds have proven themselves very accurate and the cup design add a tremendous amount of integrity behind the partition. I have used them on big stuff in Africa with great results.

Note - The Golds have a longer OAL than the standard Partitions. In a STW this is not such a big deal. However, IF case capacity is an issue, they can pose the same loading problem that Barnes do.

I have been using the 7mmstw for over ten years and have taken probably thirty head of game with it.I use only two bullets in this caliber the 140 gr ballistic tip for deer, antelope, bighorn, and goat and the 140 gr partition for elk, moose and bear.Of all the the elk and moose taken I have recovered one bullet and that one travelled through almost three feet of elk lengthwise before stopping in the neck.I have never seen a need to use a heavier bullet as the 140 gr partition has never let me down.
