Several months ago I logged on to the Buckmasters website and entered the gear giveaway. Predictably, I got a phone membership solicitation several weeks later. I asked them to send me a packet of info so I could review it, rather than commit to a verbal offer. I reviewed the packet and decided not to join. I received nothing from them. Several weeks later, I got a notice that my account had not been paid and to please send payment. Since I knew I didnt sign up for anything, I threw it away. Today I received a notice from a collection agency that Buckmasters had turned me over for collection, and the only way to avoid collection was to send $116.95 to Buckmasters.
I called Buckmasters to straighten things out and was told by their Customer Service Dept that it was an attempt on their part to generate membership. I question if the collection agency, Retrieval Masters Creditors Bureau, Inc, is even a legitimate company or a shell set up by Buckmasters to conduct this rouse. This is a blatant attempt by an organization to coerce people into joining. There are enough gullible people out there who would assume it is a legitimate debt and send in payment. This kind of business ethic is something that sportsmen dont need in our ranks. I ask if anyone else has had similar experiences. If so, we need to band together as outdoorsmen and inform Jackie Bushman and his club that we dont need these unethical business practices.

First and foremost be aware that anything mailed to you that was never ordered or applied for by you is not your responsibility for payment. Second, the onus of risk is on the company that mailed it, so they are out the rag or the book or whatever. Third, even if orderd, and one could not make payment for some reason, magazines cannot report to an overall TRW credit report.
Jackie Bushman is simply Bushleague in my opinion. He's a sellout and his hunts on film are bogus. I've seen elk rifle hunts where someone from the ranch runs them out in front so he gets a big shot at 150 yards. On some bow hunts, I've seen whitetail struck practically in the rump then the film is stopped and finally they find a critter with perfect shot placement when the camera starts rolling again and its always at night when they locate. Ya, they've been tracking really hard. Probably shot one and stuck an arrow in em after the fact. Like I said, "Bushleague".
It would be in your best interest to write up a detailed account of all that has happened, plus any correspondance that you have from BuckMasters & the collection agency, and send it to your State Attorney General's office. They will take care of it for you and others in your state.

I somehow got on their call list, and they hounded the crap out of me, each time I told them I was not interested and wanted to be taken out of their database. When my wife would answer when I was not home, the good ol'boy would hang up on her. I finally caught one of them and flipped as much as one can do over the phone, no calls since. Absolute scum bags in my humble opinion.

I don't know about this particular situation, and I don't know much about Jackie Bushman, but I do know that you couldn't pay me to be a member of Buckmasters. Both the rag and the TV show they produce give me a real bad vibe.

Morning guys, I have read this thread with great interest, and want to make a quick suggestion. On the forums on my webpage (HANDLOADING FOR HUNTING DISCUSSION FORUMS) I have had a couple of threads similar to this. The latest was a very negative discussion about Barnes bullets. I thought that in all fairness, Barnes should have a chance to respond to the posts, and contacted Kami Hall who I know from Barnes. In a short period of time, Randy Brooks, President of Barnes Bullets responded, and both on my forum and via personal email to the folks involved, got the situation taken care of... Now... I'm new on this forum and don't want to get you guys mad at me, but I really would be interested in seeing what response Buckmasters would have to this thread. After all, the allegations that Buckmasters is trying to make folks believe that their case has been turned in to a "credit agency" is both ethically and perhaps even legally problimatic at best... I would strongly suggest that either Don Canuck (the moderator of this particular forum), or the originator of the post contact Buckmasters, explain the post briefly to them, and ask for a response... I am very well acquainted with some of the folks at Buckmasters, especially with the BADF disabled hunters program and LIFE HUNTS for critically ill or terminally ill children. Should anyone need the email address of someone with whom to correspond, just send me an email and I would be glad to help out. Thanks and I hope this helps... Again, don't kick me out of the group now... Dave ( deerless Dave at the moment )

These posts all pretty much echo the sentiments of most people when talking about Buckmasters.
I associate a group like Buckmasters with younger, inexperienced, redneck, not-very-serious, don't-know-any-better, easily led wannabe "hunters", who just love putting decals in their truck windows.
Buckmasters did a similar thing to me. I was in the middle of a painting project on a SUNDAY when I got a TELEMARKETING call from Buckmasters. The guy on the phone kept yappin his yap. I finally got a word in and said, "no thank you, I am too busy right now to listen to your offer but you can send me info in the mail (as I had a wet paintbrush in my hand).
I think the call resulted from a sweepstakes they were running that I entered on the internet.
Anyway, that wasn't the end of it. Instead of info I got one of their magazines in the mail AND the same billing you got. I tossed both. Got another so I called them and told them I NEVER ordered this publication and I did not want the membership, blah, blahhhhh, blah. Anyway, my story ended well. They dropped the bill and left me alone.

I took the liberty of forwarding the URL of this thread to a cchastain@buckmasters.com in what appeared to be their customer service department. I hope they will be giving us the benefit of their side of the story.

Jackie Bushman is a real twibbe....Where do guys like that come from...Every time I see one of those bubas on TV It turns my stomach...
They get so excited and breath so hard and whisper so fast that all I can think of is they are making an obscene phone call or having a phyical happening of some sort...it is ridiculas.
They all shoot from stands I guess and every shot I have seen taken by any of them are off a stool with some funky looking gun or bow that they are pimping...at least I think that is what is going on because there are so damn many commercials that I get confused as to what is actually going on...Remington country is 20 minutes of commercial and 1 minute of shooting.
Oh well, I don't watch the "panting few" anymore, I would rather listen to my dog do the panting bit thank you...

Ann @Aspen Hill Farm, I hope my experience ends like yours. I'm sure they'll leave me alone since I didn't fall for their trick. I agree with some of the earlier posts about the Disabled hunts and Buckmasters attempt to get kids into hunting, very commendable.
I did contact their Customer Service office and told them of my plan to post this and provide a cc to them. The answer was "do what you want, we don't care."

These shitbirds used call me all the time wanting me to join,I finally started giving them this Anti Hunter ruse and told them how awful it was to kill Gods little creatures ect I mean I raggged on and on.They have never called again. Maybe you could get some slicko lawyer and sue them, say since you got that collection agency bill you can't eat,you can't sleep, you can't have sex anymore, hell dream it up as you go the bastards deserve it. Is Jackie Bushman a faggot? If not he's missing a hell of a chance. Buckmasters what a joke!!!
It is Buckmasters commitment to represent and promote a positive public image of ethical hunting and an awareness of the essential role of hunting as a necessary conservation tool, now and for the future. We do contact hunters by telephone to see if they are interested in any of the services that we provide like Buckmasters Membership, merchandise, chapters, events, etc... All of our telephone sales are confirmed by sales managers before they are processed. Once a sale is processed, we mail the customer a copy of the magazine with an invoice. The invoice states everything in writing and explains payment options. It also states the TOLL FREE NUMBER for customer service and a request TO CALL if you have any questions or problems regarding the bill/order. Our office hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST Monday through Friday with 24/7 voice mail and email for customer service. If we do not get a response in thirty days, we mail a second invoice which also explains what is included and to call customer service on our TOLL FREE NUMBER if you have any questions or problems with the order. If we do not get a response in thirty days, we mail a third invoice which again states what is included and to call customer service on our TOLL FREE NUMBER if you have any questions or problems with the order. If we do not get a response in thirty days, the account is turned over to Retrieval Masters Credit Bureau (RMCB). RMCB generally gets the interested or not interested response from the customer. I assure you that we do not want to continue to send a customer an invoice or magazine if they are not interested in joining. Keep in mind that we all have the same goal to preserve the great sport of hunting. Let me know if any of you have any questions or problems that I can help you with in the future. Good luck this year!

Apparently they do care. See above. Whether or not you are responsible, you should be commended for bringing this to their attention.
Interestingly, there seems to be a dearth of customer service today vs., say, 10-20 years ago. It seems to me that fewer people care to help even when you're paying for that help, fewer follow up on anything (even if you are paying for the follow up) and fewer still are polite while doing so. Even in these forums, full of people with the same interest (or purporting to have the same interest), one sees a lack of civility. Of course, these things run in cycles so maybe we're just seeing the down side of the wave...
It is simply amazing to me that any business, much less one with a relatively limited client base, would do anything to abuse it's customers. It is commonly known that on average a satisfied customer tells 3 people while a dis-satisfied customer passes on his experience to 7 or more people. Further, the satisfied person tells the first 3 people he meets even if they are not particularly interested in the product/service while the dis-satisfied guy will tell those who have an interest in the product/service. Isn't it obvious that every effort should be made to keep the customers happy?

Wow, thats great... how do you purpose to achieve this goal with that slob-hunter Jackie Bushman? He comes to Montana, buys a lease for double what it's worth because a big buck is proported to reside it, then sets up a Texas-style ladder stand and proceeds to watch ESPN on portable t.v. til said crtitter comes by to get blown away... yeah, real "positive" image.
Sell your bullshit to someone who can't think... course, that's how you rednecks stay in business.

As a professional bill collector myself, I can guarantee that I would shit-can ANY client who sent me accounts for collection that were not on the up-and-up. A collection agency is not some damned marketing operation to find out if the consumer (or "debtor", as we call them when we have a legitimate account to collect) is "interested". This strategy is bullshit, and is in fact almost certainly a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act on the part of the agency and, if reported to credit bureau, a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act on the part of Buckmasters. This is slimeball marketing, plain and simple.

I don't care how many TOLL FREE NUMBERS there are...
Buckmasters is probably the WORST of all the hunting shows, and that is saying alot. THe last time I saw it, the hunter shot a big deer, and was nearly pissing himself with excitement. I thoght he was going to treat himself right there. It was creepy...
Scams like this are still scams. They try to convince the victim that they do indeed owe the money and that they have joined the "club" or whatever.
Some people wil just pay, and that is exactly what businesses like this are hoping will happen.

Mr.Chastain, I will never do any business with your company ever again because of the threat to send my account to a collection agency. Your callers have also been rude to me and my wife. I do not appreciate such things and will not support people who act in that manner. A verbal agreement to examine literature does not mean I am willing to purchase anything. It only means I would like some information so I can consider it. I will tell them never to call me again the next time they call.

..."in accordance with the fair debt collection practices act I am informing you that the only way to contact me is by US Mail. You may not contact at any address other than the home address. Absolutely no phone contact will be accepted, and will be considered harrasment." ...
ask them for an invoice or play back your order confirmation. If they dont have either, tell em to go piss up a rope
Those pieces of cheese tied up a public safety dispatcher where I work trying to solicit me. Since they wouldn't take no the first 10 times I got to explain to my boss where they got the dispatch number from. I only put my work number on my house and bank paperwork so Buckmaster's must have paid for a list from them or a credit bureau.
I want no part of a sleazy organization that has to hound and badger people to make money. Same with NAHC. Carnival barkers have more integrity.
Buckmaster my arse.
Now if any of these fools call I go into my hairlip or heavy breathing routine. I used to use a gym coach whistle. I would lure them in real close to their phone by talking softly and then give em a nice dose of loud tweeting!!! But since the phone companies put limiters on the phone lines to only allow so many decibels it's not as fun anymore. Hearing them drop their phone and cry out in pain was a hoot. Way I figured it, it was 15 minutes or more before they could make another call to bug someone. At least it took that long for my ears to stop ringing. Huh!!!! Come agin???
In a perfect world we would have little red "Bad Telemarketer" buttons on our phones that would work like a stun gun. You'd hit the button, some snazzy software would check a database in a few nanoseconds and confirm the that dirtbag was a slimeball soliciter and WHAM!!! Do the funky chicken son. Whoa. Only problem would be liability if the guy was eating his macaroni and cheese with a fork and took out an eyeball. That or they could put them boys in a shock belt like they used on the unruley court prisoners out here in SoCal. Tune the software so that if they don't take the first no for an answer and hang up or they get nasty they get a 150,000 vdc tuneup. Couple of those world turning experiences and no more problem soliciter.
You guys are a trip. What with Ray's "physical happening" and Gatehouse's "treating hinself", I was laughing out loud, AT WORK, so people knew I wasn't working! Peter.
Mr.cchastain, you certainly expend a hell of a lot of effort to force memberships and magazines down the publics throat. Even if someone was to say, "hey, I don't commit or purchase anything by phone, but you can mail some literature and I'll take a look at it and get back to you if I'm interested".
Now if this is construed to commiting to an order and your agency phones 1,2,3,etc., times and pressures payment for something not even remotely commited to by the consumer your simply S&%*-Out-Of-Luck for any collection. Know why? Beacuse no one ordered a damn thing from you to collect from.
I'd laugh so hard if a Collection Ageny called for an incident like this, I would be willing to laugh in court (which it would never come to) with the judge who would hammer your company into the ground for wasting everyones time in the first place.
If you really are tired of this buckmasters org. then the real way to fight it is let there sponsers know how you feel and refuse to buy there products. If Nikon,Yamaha,Jennings,Moutrie,Realtree ect, ect.know that you won't buy from them because they support buckmasters then you'll get there attention, but it can't be just one guy its got to be lots of guys.If these Big companys feel they are losing sales due there support of this organization they will pull the plug on them. When GP sales are affected big companys start looking.I personally won't buy any product that they endorse or has there logo on it.
I think the segment on the program with Bushman...I wonder if that's his stage name..between a talking puppet and some clown sitting in front of a mailbox says it all...or maybe it would be the segment with him playing with the plastic gun and TV. They called me once and after I politely...was in a weird mood...listened to all the homeboy crap...how many did you get..etc....said "No thanks" to the offer...the SOB hung the phone up in my face.
