A buddy of mine let his date (1st date) start the bidding at an SCI Auction in Jacksonville last weekend and he ended up buying a trip to hunt Rusa deer down under. He was kidding about her making a bid and now he is going to hunt an animal that he's never heard of (I hope she put out). If anyone is interested let me know and I'll get you the details, I'm sure he'd let it go for a song.

Sure as long as the hunt is actually transferrable.

Email me the details etc.

Why not hunt Rusa himself? They make great trophies.

I think that the airfare makes it cost prohibitive to him, although after speaking to him yesterday he seems more motivated to go- I'll have him contact both of you.

Hello Woodhits
I will give you the courtesy of reply but this hunt is for people that have plenty of money. Unfortunately not me. If your traveling here than you need a lot of support, and hence the cost.

She must have been REALLY good looking or REALLY good is all I can say. I can't figure out why someone would pay $3000 for a hunt and then not have $1500 or so for airfare. Perhaps too much fruit of the corn?

Sorry mate, me too.

US$3000 is way too much for this hunt.

"I'm sure he'd let it go for a song." Thats one hell of an expensive song [Confused] [Eek!] [Roll Eyes]

Moluccan Rusa are also the small ones. Javan Rusa being the better trophies. Not saying Moluccan Rusa won't make a nice hunt eg the hunts that used for go for A$1500 for six Molluccans on the Bensback plains in New Guinea, but for US$3G I can go to New Calendonia and bop off at least two World class heads.

No idea. Is that a joke ie "hunting Bob Penfold", or do you mean hunting Penfold's concession, or do you mean the 'price'?

Where are the Moluccan's in Queensland? I know they are on Groote Eylandt in Northern Territory but where in Qld?

I remember hearing about another herd - North or South of Townsville - but not sure.

Of course there are some behind wire not far from me, but perhaps having some sambar blood as well.

***

For those that do not know, the Bensbach deal used to be for about six Moluccan heads and groups of Aussie hunters used to charter a plane from Cairns and fly to the Fly River/Bensbach Plains in South Western New Guinea. Hunt for a week or there abouts. The trophies never used to be great, all the Rusa were average and often at long range. But six heads for A$1200 to $2000 was pretty good. Plus barramundi fishing.

These hunts stopped well over a decade ago when I think the outfitter got speared in some sort of dispute over a shot dog or pig or something and left before it got really ugly [Eek!]

Tens of thousands of the deer there from the reports.

Where are the Moluccan's in Queensland?
I don't know, unless they are in the gulf country?

Yeah, I'm sure that $3000 would be high for a local, understanding that you wouldn't want or need many of the services necessary to a visiting hunter- he can afford the airfare (easily), but he really doesn't want to shell out another $1500 to hunt an animal that he had to see a picture of to identify. Let's call it a smart-ass manuver that backfired. As for the girl, she was pretty good-looking, although for $3k an escort might have been a better deal. Thanks anyway for the input guys.

There are rusa's in QLD, behind the wire. There are some game/hunting parks, where one can take the trophy that one wants..big, average, herd reduction/quality improvement kind-of thing . I've sent a hunter to a game park north of Brisbane once for a rusa. I think he paid about the same kind of money. Don't know of any free range rusa in QLD.

I checked out the website of Havago lodge, its halfway between Goondiwindi and Toowoomba, they have a 12,000 hectare property with Fallow, Rusa, Chital and Sambar. It looks like an operation catering to overseas hunters in upmarket quarters. I saw some Rusa in the Brisbane valley so there are some wild ones about.

Woodhits,

I wonder which one of the duo was the blond! [Big Grin]

If you friend can't sell the hunt he might think about finding some aditional cheaper hunting and staying a few extra days. Maybe a day or two after Sambar with another 3 or 4 days pig hunting would have the makings of a very interesting trip...

Regards,

Pete

It is so much fun taking peoples words out of context! [Big Grin]
