got a letter at the gun store saturday from winchester saying we aint seen nothing yet the new 270 and 7mm short magnums will be out later this year, no definite time but hopefully before the year is out. what do you guys think? imho for me there is no reason for the 7mm wsm, because i could buy a standard 7mm, but a hotter .270 with out the weatherby price tag may be an idea!

I would be a buyer for the 270WSM, but like you the 7mm doesn't do anything for me. I don't care for any 7mm, so having another one to look at isn't a big deal. They ought to bring out a 338 or 358 version instead, IMO.

John, you and I are on the same wave length. 338 or 358wsm is by ans lagre a better idea than a 270 or 7mmwsm. Might not even hurt for them to bring out a 375 wsm...

Can any of you tell me what the real purpose of the WSM (in any configuration) is?? IMHO it is just another gimmick to sell guns in calibers which will probably be forgotten in 5 years. Do we really need this stuff? What real gains are there?

JLR, The real gain is that I will have an excuse to buy another rifle. There is no argument that .300 WSM does not kill any deader than my .30-06, but I don't need another rifle in .30-06 or even .270Win. Let the companies sell their rifles, new sales keep them in business.

The single best reason for these new cartridges is to keep the price of used '06's and 270's low. Saw some pretty good 700's at a gun store the other day for $250. 110's for $200. Gotta love it. Dutch.
