I'm just back from a four day hunt. I went prepared for the worst weather and got the best --almost too good-- with record warms; no snow, rain, etc ;. but all the wind I could handle. What a great experience! 3 of the four hunters in camp got nice 4x4s and I blew my chance due to fogged glasses. I passed on several lesser bucks and never got a shot but the hunt was challenging and the scenery was different from any a benighted Easterner could expect to see, the hunting camaraderie was great, and there was lots of wildlife including deer, coyotes, jackrabbits, a few antelope and lots of wildfowl and raptors. I'd do it again in a heartbeat but put in some extra PT to prepare for the sand hills rigor -- climb one hill and there are two more even taller behind it. And you had to get high to glass for deer to stalk. My eastern ambush strategies didn't work. Sneak and peek and stalking were the right tactics. 1B | ||
