Is their hunting clothing worth the money?

KK, I have one of their pull-over shirts. I've seen nothing that can compare with it; it's that good. I'd like to buy more of it, but can't justify it for now. I'm really well set for hunting clothing at this time. Now, if I was starting out new, and knew about Stika stuff, I'd zero in on as much as I could afford. AWESOME stuff... Don

Everybody wears it including the guides here in Alaska, so I would say, yea they are....as you know Alaska is the proving grounds for basically everything outdoors.

22, It's definitely good. My personal opinion is the outer wear is very good. It's tough and does what it advertises. On the base layers, I cheat and use inexpensive polypropylene or similar synthetics. Can't justify what game can't see. Here is a link to some Sitka gear at reasonable prices: www.camofire.com They have specials each week on Sitka clothing. You have to sign up and they email what they have on special each day. Now, not every day do they have Sitka gear. Mostly once a week. But I've seen the 90% jacket and pants at better than half off. The catch is they only have limited supply. So if you're an XL or L then those will go the quickest. It's also their old camo design. It's not their new one. I've ordered from them in the past (2 or 3 months ago was the last time) and one order took about 4 days and the other took about two weeks to get to me. Hope this is a benefit to you (and other readers).

I got my first few pieces of Sitka Gear about 4 years back; Mountain pants and shirt. Love them! I then picked up the 90% jacket, vest, beanie, hat and gloves at an "end of season" sale at my local Cabelas for my AK grizzly last year. This stuff reeks of quality and design. Worth the cost? Absolutely! Can it break the bank? Absolutely! Where we hunted on the very western edge of the Seward Peninsula the average wind speed is 9 mph. The wind blocking ability of the Sitka Gear was fine. I think if it the wind were double or more I'd want something to break the wind a bit more than what I had. My friend says the new Sitka Gear now has a wind blocker built in. On really windy days I'd wear my Cabelas Ultra Light Rain Packer top and bottom and I was just fine. My best friend stopped in the Reno Cabelas last week and went to buy a pair of 90% pants. With his build, he has a 6-pack, the Medium pants are tight and the Large pants would allow he and his wife to have a wrestling match in them. As far as their color schemes, I love the original with more greys. I loathe the green versions. Personal pref. Shirt, vest and hat. Add the pants, coat and gloves. Alan

I just bought some Sitka gear for a wyoming mule deer hunt to be prepared for some cold weather while climbing in the mountains. Many of the guides I have been hunting with use them on extreme hunts. My usual cold weather gear is way to bulky (michelin man effect) which is fine for a stand or blind for whitetails. I got the core and 90% and then added a Celsius vest and jacket. I thought it was great for climbing to 9500 ft being soaked in sweat and then staying warm when clouds came over and the wind blew. I like the vents under the arms too as on horseback when the sun was shining you could open the vents and then close them up when clouds brought cold again without having to get off the horse. The great thing is these layers all fit easily in my pack. I could barely get my extreme whitetail outfit into my day pack... I think it was a good investment. I have the same deal with the pants though, I have the large which are a little roomy for me at a 34 however the mediums I couldn't get on....

I look at hunting clothing as a system. No one has it completely figured out. Also not everything is ideal for all situations. That said a number of the Sitka items are top notch. The biggest thing is the new Optifade cammo. It is outstanding. They have videos of it in use on their website and on youtube.com I believe. I like some of there clothing a lot, others somewhat, and a few not at all. The Ascent pant, Stormfront rain suite, Jetstream jacket, and Ascent top are great stuff. The Stormfront lite stinks and I would not own one. The other items are ok-good, but I like similar clothing from other manufacturers better. Mountain Hardwear, Integral Design, Barney's Sport's Chalet, Sporthill, Mammut, and Westcomb all make good gear. Again no one has it all figured out. I just pick and choose the best from each. The Sitka gear really comes into it's own because of optifade with sheep/goat hunting and bow hunters doing spot and stalk or hunting from the ground. After much deliberation I purchased the Ascent gear. One pair of pants, one pull over, a 90% jacket and a pair of gloves. They were absolutly great on my Kodiak Island Mountain Goat hunt. Expensive... yes. Worth it... yes!. they are very tough, dry fast, and very warm even when wet. [URL= ] [URL= ]
