i guess if i had to use a 270 i would go 150 grain partitions or failsafes. some thing that would hold together and penetrate. seems like there are some awfully good factory rounds out there. i would get at least 3 different brands and pick which ever was the most accurate. good luck

Gotta agree with above post, BUT Trophy Bonded offers the "Bear Claw" and that is damn good too. And for another, if it shoots from your rifle, the Barnes X certainly offers another fine option. ------------------

I have killed two elk with a 270 using 150 hornady and they performed very well. My wife has killed 3 elk with 140 hornady boattails and they have worked well too. I normally hunt elk with a larger gun but both elk I found while deer hunting so I used what I had a 270. All 5 elk killed with the 270 were taken very cleanly! Needless to say I was impressed with the killing power of the 270!! It will work very well as long as you place your shot in the boiler room.

The .270 wouldn't be my first choice for elk, but if I were hunting on a combo tag & had to use it I would go for 150gr prem. Federal 150gr NP Federal 140gr TBBC (HE) PMC 150gr 'x' Rem. Saf. Grd. 140gr Swift I think the .270 can cleanly take elk if you are patient & place that 1st shot very well, but I like the 7mags & up for big bulls. Good luck!

I'll be using the 150 NP or 140 TBBC in my .270 for elk. Good shooting, Talus
