I am originally from an area of Indiana that is about 15 miles from Peru where Russ Bellar is from. I was a commercial loan officer in a local bank back in the early 90s before moving south and Russ was one of my customers, at that time he was building confinement hog houses. My recollection of him and my opinion at the time is that he was a shyster who would do anything for a buck (pun not intended) so I wasn't at all surprised when he started a crooked canned hunting operation.
ALL HUNTING SHOWS are designed to make money. The majority of viewers could care less about a hunt that did not result in a kill and sponsors are well aware of this, thus the propensity toward "canned" hunting or "high-fenced" hunts. It just entertainment! Not at all designed to be as "sporting" as you or I when we head out on public land after an elk, etc. Jimmy (like most of the rest) and his sponsors want a satisfied viewer. The "KILL" usually delivers. Again, just entertainment! Glad you weren't surprised. From some of the threads I read on this and other site, you would think these hunting shows are typically filmed on vast areas of public land, when if fact most are on private land with guides (again for the success of the kill). Did I say "entertainment"?

get rid of B&C P&Y SCI books then these morons that all they want is to see there name in print will have to find another way for fame, it's pitfull what has happened to hunting which is not a sport but a way of life.

I'll agree and disagree with your point. As far as I'm concerned Boone & Crocket, Pope & Young and Rowland Ward are the only legitimate trophy record books we as hunters have to gauge our trophies against. S.C.I., now they are another story. S.C.I. has shown that they will accept trophies in their book no matter what the method of harvest. It's just a shame the S.C.I. record book is not printed on softer paper!!

Fellas, I really didn't want to put my 2 cents in, but I was a little perturbed by some of the comments that I've read. I recently started a new company called Ultimate Muzzloading outdoors. Although I have been in the process for the last 6 years, it's just now coming together. My hunting partner and I focus on public land hunts when at all possible. We are not rich, famous or proud. Just two guys who love to hunt more than anything in the world. Our hope is that we will one day be on a network station and that we will be able to do it all for a meager living, but for now it's alot of blood sweat and tears. Trust me, begging rich guys for tiny amount of money is not fun and the answer is usually no! Good luck though!! Even still, our intentions are pure and we want to bring the love of hunting to others as well as eventually give hunts away to guys who couldn't otherwise afford to do so. So please don't generalize all "hunting shows" and what their intentions are.........wapiti7
My take on the B&C, SCI, and P&Y books is they have their place. However, they have been bastardized into ego trips for the mainly well to do. So, let's continue entering worthy animals in the book, but WITHOUT THE EGO TRIPPING HUNTER'S NAME. Might go a long way towards stopping some of the stuff that happens to give true hunters a bad name. Paul B.

Jimmy Houston is a major league ASS CLOWN!! I love to hunt it is a way of life to me. Morons like Jimmy Houston are pure poison to our way of life.
I am all for shooting a nice head I strive to do so on my hunts. I've shot a couple of nice specimens over years but that is not what it is all about. To me it's all about the entire experience not whether I shot a bigger buck than Bubba.
