I just came from the gun show in Salt lake and would like some opinions about a couple guns that caught my eye.

First there were a couple of Lazeroni rifles which Im not farmilar with. They appeared to be rather impressive (to me anyway) for a somewhat reasonable price as custom rifles go. The downside of corse is the wildcat factor and the horrendous cost of brass. ($40,00 per box) Any Lazeroni owners or opinions about becoming one? Im looking into a good varmint rifle BTW.

The other gun I didnt get (bosses orders ) was a german made Savage. This is also a new one on me and it looked like no other Savage Ive ever seen, real quality apperance and I took the mans ph #. It was chambered for 222 rem which I would like for varminiting and reloading purposes and appeared in good condition, he was asking about $700.00 for it.

Man, I wanted to go today, but the funds didn't allow any purchases and I thought it would be too cruel to just tease myself. Sounds like you had a good time.

Wstrnhuntr,

The rifle you saw was a Savage Anschutz, probibly a model 153.Savage imported these from Anschutz back in the 60s and 70s.Now Cooper imports them.

I own around a half dozen Anschutz at this time. You will never, ever find a more accurate rifle right out of the box. They are ALL accurate. My 1432 in 22 Hornet will put just about any load into 0.5 inches or less at 100 yards-and that's with a shot out throat! The three 164s I have (22 LR and two 22 Magnums)all shoot 3/4 inch or less for a clip full at 100 yards-and thats with plain old CCI ammo!!!

$700 is about going rate for a 153.You won't find one much cheaper. If you want the most accurate varmint rifle ever mass produced, you don't need to look any farther.

Yea I was just there looking around myself, Im a sucker for punishment I guess but I liked it. I guess Im just a twisted individual? It was a good educational thing for me though, the first one Ive been to for a long time.

The Savage was an anschutz, I drew a blank on that when I posted this for some dumb reason. Does Cooper have a webbsite?

I also saw a vintage o/u savage 20 ga.-222 that I really liked. It had some small game engraving on it and was going for only $260.00 and appeared in very good condition. I took his ph # as well, I thought that would make a great varmint/phesant starter rifle when my boy comes of age. Very enjoyable afternoon even though I wasnt there to buy.

One thing I didnt like about it was that if you are there to buy (especialy something used) you cant open up and/or use the actions for inspection because they are ziptied in a stationary position for obvious reasons. I guess thats the price we pay for saftey in those events.

No Lazeroni owners here? I find that hard to believe..

Wstrnhuntr,

If Cooper does have a website,it will not help you much. The 153 was discontinued long ago.Now all Anschutz's on the 54 action are lumped under the Model 1700.These run a minimum of $1,100 a piece new.
