Many Thanks for the info Tendrams. I am more interested in getting out of Texas and spending a couple of days in what is possibly my 3rd. favorite part of the U.S.A.. My second favorite is still in Texas, out around Fort Stockton and the Trans-Pecos. I have hunted up in the Pine Ridge district of Nebraska a couple of times and on one of those trips we drove up to Mount Rushmore and to the Crazy Horse monument. I love that country. A cow buffalo ain't gonna make any "books" anyway, with me. it is more the idea of being in that part of the country in the Fall and hunting/shooting a really unique animal that I have studied and loverd for most of my 59 years if I get to go this Fall. I do apologise for taking the discussion so far off topic and making an ass of myself, but it ain't the first time I have done such a thing, and it probably won't be the last. Even the rocks don't last forever.

It is a beautiful park and the people who work there are good folks. Still, to be honest, I wish they didn't have the guide requirement to hunt Bison there or the three day limit for that matter. I would love to spend two weeks roaming that place with a rifle to find the absolute oldest and biggest brute of a bull in the place. I was there a few years ago and saw some massive 12+ year old monsters (they have their birth year branded on their rump) with horns worn down to 8" stubs. Great animals that had probably been dodging hunters for the last 5 years or so. Might have to get back someday soon.

I don't really care much about score. Only had one animal measured and only entered it because it was the state record and I had to get people off my back. Anyway, unless things have changed completely the Henry Mtns, House Rock, Antelope Island, and Jellystone herds are all enterable in the B&C book. If not, my customer who entered a 128"er last month (shot in WY on a public permit) got taken for the entry fee. Oh and buff meat is great!

Yes, the limit on the cows is a One Day hunt, but stop and think about it. For every one person like you that could/would do a 3 Day hunt, and only kill the specified animal, think of how many others would take bad shot choices, both the animal and the yardage, and possibly go off and leave wounded or dead animals behind. To me it is part of the "Human Condition". JMO, but rules and regulations are usually a direct result of someone's decision to make their own rules on these type hunts. it does not take but one or two screw ups, intentional or not, to ruin things for everyone else. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Just double checked myself and I was thinking of something else. The Henry, House Rock, and other "free roaming" herds in the lower 48 are eligible for the all-time book but not the B&C "place awards". According to B&C, "Since 1977, hunter-taken trophies from the lower 48 states are acceptable only for the records books (both Awards and all-time), not for consideration of the usual place awards, and only if they were taken in a state that recognizes bison as wild and free-ranging and which requires a hunting license and/or big-game tag for hunting bison". Only Canada and Alaska trophies are eligible for the "place awards".
