Recall of Anti-2nd Amendment Colorado Senate President John Morse Succeeds

Signature totals greater than number of votes cast for Morse's election

Colorado Springs, CO, June 4,2013, The Basic Freedom Defense Fund (BFDF - www.bfdf.org),the Colorado grassroots group heading the recall of State Senate President John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) has submitted16,046 District 11 voter petition signatures to the Colorado Secretary of States' office for the recall of John Morse. This exceeds both the 7,178 signatures necessary for the recall and also exceeds the total number of votes (13,451) cast for Morse during his 2010 election.

The results of this historic recall effort were achieved despite the efforts of NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg, Morse's robo calls to voters, false attacks on signature collectors' reputations and Morse's political machine headed by Ed Hall, Chairman of the Denver Democrats and filing agent for Morse's anti-recall group "A Whole Lot of People for John Morse." Hall is known for his Democrat Party biography referring to Colorado Springs as a "...right-wing, religious whack-job stronghold."*

The submitted petition signatures and addresses will be verified by the Secretary of State. It is expected that Democrats will further challenge remaining signatures, possibly including court challenges to draw out the process. If the count still exceeds 7,178 after this, Morse will be given five working days from that time to decide whether or not to resign his office.

If Morse resigns within the five-day period, state Democrats can appoint a replacement from their ranks. If he does not resign, a date for the special election is set. In that event, it is possible that the Governor and Democrat Party may try to extend it to November so as to prepare a campaign to try to save Morse.

In a recent Colorado Springs interview Morse stated he will not resign and is "...in now until the bitter end." Colorado Democrat Party Chairman Rick Palacio of Pueblo denied rumors that state democrats may ask Morse to step down so that they may replace him with appointee Michael Merrifield, though Palacio later stated in the same interview that Merrifield as a replacement "is a possibility."

Such a move risks public backlash as it could be perceived as both ignoring the electorate's wishes and taking an even harder stance against gun rights since Merrifield has served as a state director for Mayor Bloomberg's gun-banning group "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" - positions that inspired the Morse recall effort.

"Regardless of the outcome and any posturing by Morse, he is going to be removed from his senate position one way or another due to his anti-constitutional beliefs and demonstrated actions." --Anthony Garcia, BFDF spokesman -- Anthonybasicfreedomdefensefund.org.

*Note: Should Ed Hall scrub his anti-Colorado Springs remark from his website biography, BFDF has saved the link and it is available from BFDF (see media contact below).

Drummond,

If I recall, weren't 3 legislators the target of the recall? Only one of them on the list?

thanks

Its Morse and 3 others. Morse is the first recall that got the required signatures for the recall but he is the Colorado Senate President so he was the big fish.

Hopefully there will be enough signatures to recall the other 3 soon

I copied and pasted this from a friend. He talks about some of the difficulties

"We're not done with this guy yet. The petition was successful (still to be verified by the secretary of state, but they have 9,000 more signatures than they need - about 220%), but now there will be an election and the state just passed a mandatory mailed ballot to every registered voter whether they requested one or not. This new legislation makes voter fraud potentially epidemic. They also passed passed same-day voting registration, meaning I can register to vote in District 11 and cast my vote the same day - another process ripe for fraud ESPECIALLY IN A SPECIAL ELECTION. I can foresee unions busing people in to register and vote the same day.

So, Morse still needs to be thrown out AND we have to vote in a replacement. This is just one battle won - and many kudos to all the volunteers and people who donated. Al they need is a forged utility bill to register"

This is great news!
I too was outside his District so I had no hand in it other than tell a few folks where to go to sign the recall petition.
The depths these people will go to hold onto their positions is amazing.
Locally (Colorado Springs) radio ads were run warning people that there were "convicted felons and scam artists who were posing as recall petition signature collectors who were going door to door and standing in front of supermarkets trying to get your signature and personal information"
These were sponsored by Morse committee to reform recall fraud!
What a dirtbag this guy is!

He is the biggest POS and shame to Colorado I've ever seen. Just this year the things he has signed want to make me puke.

Ding ding ding! His executive order to stop the execution of a mass murderer was just as, if not more, disgusting as the laws he's signed into place

Yes that about topped it for me Drummond, you have a convicted killer who shot his victims execution style (5, four dead) who has used up all of his appeals and is scheduled to take his ride and our Gov loses his stomach for it.
Some of his other notable recent accomplishments are:
In state tuition rates for illegal aliens
Drivers Licenses for illegal aliens
The 3 anti gun and gun owners bills.
Gay marriage which I don't care about except it was voted down by the people of this state then signed into law by the Gov.
Not to mention same day voter registration
and the list goes on and on for this guy.

Is this Colorado we are talking about or California. IT is quite shocking with what is happening to CO! Is this Californication in action or just temporary insanity amongst its voters?

Spoke with the Pueblo recall people this past Sunday. They indicated that they had more than the minimum needed for recall of Giron, but wanted 20% over the top as they think some signatures will be thrown out.

My hunting buddy and I have just firmed up a 2nd season rifle elk hunt in CO. Politically, he's left leaning and I'm passionately right leaning. Sounds like I may have something constructive to talk about on our trip north. Great job Colorado....Democracy at its finest!

I live on the western slope, so not only could I not sign the recall petition, but no one in state government gives a $hit what we think over here anyway. I'm glad to see the SOB on his way out... now we need to get rid of this worthless governor. The guy doesn't represent Colorado, he represents Bloomberg and is nothing more than a liberal puppet. Not worth a $hit.
