I posted this over at H/A, though I would post it here too. I finally figured out this picture posting deal. So here is my Big Buck to date. He dressed over 200 lbs, and was taken in VA. This was in 1993, I was 22 years old. Gun was a Rem 788 in .243 winchester. I was shooting 100gr win. power points. The shot was at 80 Yards. The buck did not react to the shot at all. He trotted off about 60 yards, and looked back. Then he started to stagger, and a few seconds later hit the ground with a Thud that I still can hear in my mind. I was Shaking like a leaf. I have only even seen 1 or 2 other deer (myself in the woods) in the last 10 years that would compare to him, and one of them was Standing right beside him when I shot him! The other buck had a whiter rack, and was a little taller, but not near as wide. Thought you guys might enjoy him, I know I do. Just though I would add that the wound in photo is the entry wound. I was on a hill and the bucks were feeding in a field below me. I acctually got full penetration, but if this buck had of taken off full steam, the tracking job may have been a little tougher. After having some less than perfect results at odd angles, I went to a bigger caliber. Nothing wrong with the ol .243 though when used within it's limitations. Also,he is a 9 point'r. The front tine on the right side is forked at the top, but you can't make it out in the photo. So he is a 5x4 (5 on the left side 4 on the right, counting the brow tines) Non typical for sure. I wish I didn't have my hands covering the bases in the pic, they were THICK & STUBY. [ 07-05-2003, 07:45: Message edited by: Mark G ]

Nice buck! It's a bit hard to judge from this photo but I'm guessing about 120 give or take 10 points. Don't hold me to it... Fordfreak, nice work with the "girl." Reed

Sounds like we have a contest here. And I know I have a better chance at this than with Saeed's elephant tusks. I'll say 142 gross and 135 net. No doubt he is a fine buck, Mark. Shawn

OK, I don't know how you are suppose to measure these things, (or what all the G1,2,3,H1,2,3 Stuff is about) but here are some measurments with my Redneck lables. Brow tines - 4" left & 3.75" Right Inside Spread - 20.5" Right Rear Tine - 10" Right main Beam (from base, on the inside) - 20" Forked tine right side (at top of beam) 1.5" Girth at base (both sides) 6.75" Left Rear tine 9" Next left tine 6.75" Next left tine 7.25" Left main Beam (from base, on the inside) - 22.5" Can yall make anything from that??

Mark, I think you are missing two measurements on the rack. I think you also measure antler diameter between the tines. With the measurments you gave I came up with about 110.5 , however if you add the other measurements you might get 125 out of him. That should be a high scoring buck for Viginy.

you measure the mass at the smallest place between the first three and half way to the end of the beam on the last on 8 pointers,or the smallest place between the g-3and 4`s on 10 pointers or above.you do not measure the base around the flared out part next to the skull, you measure tha smallest place, the beams get measured on the outside from hairline to the tips. I cant geuss on the score it looks to have 5 on the right and 3 on the left in the pic. its got to be screwed up way yonder worse than that to be non-typical though.VERY NICE deer . congrats.
