It was a great weekend in west Texas where we harvested 3 great free range axis. Temps are normally in the mid 90s but we had some unusual weather with high winds and rain
dropping temps into the upper 50s. It made the deer movement shut down to a minimum but we kept after it and scored on these 3 bucks (went 3 for 3). Its about prime time
for axis right now.

That first one is a dandy, what with that length. I like the mass on the third one though. All nice bucks, to be sure.

First buck was 35.75 inches

Second 33 inches

Third 35 inches

The first and third were within 3 inches of total score of each other. Thanks!

Many people consider the Axis (cheetal) the prettiest of all deer. I can't disagree. Those bucks are beauties.

Would you say they average about the same body weight/size as a mule deer?

They average 165 to 185lbs field dressed. Not sure compared to mule deer because our muleys tend to be smaller bodied than other areas.
