Just got through with a tour of Pebble Hill Plantation. Several U.S. Presidents and even the past King of England hunted here. I wish that they allowed photos to be taken inside. They have 33 original John Audubon's in their collection. The gun room, dog kennels and stables were all impressive. I always heard that Thomasville Ga was the quail hunting mecca of the world. I never knew the amount of wealth in this area. Some of the most powerful families in America have plantations in the Thomasville to Tallahassee area including Vanderbilt's, the Bush family and Ted Turner. One gentleman told me that the Thomasville area always had money unlike the rest of the South. Reason is that wealthy people from the North started purchasing large land tracts after the civil war. It was an attractive area for hunting retreats because of the rail system, warm climate, good hunting and cheap land. Below is the Big Live Oak of Thomasville.

Yep... I have a couple of buddies with plantations just over from there. You wouldn't know it but there's lots of "private jet folks" around there... Beautiful area. Huge whitetails too but they don't talk about them or let pictures get published...Booners... and I've seen two 200 inch deer taken. Maybe the best kept secret in whitetail hunting

Bucket list for me is to hunt some of the classic quail plantations that allow commercial hunting like Rio Piedra, Pine Hill or Dorchester. Or just call Larry and arrange a hunt at the Gilchrist Club in Florida! On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died. If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch... Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son! - Rudyard Kipling Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

This thread should be deleted from the "Big Game Hunting" forum. velocity is like a new car, always losing value. BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

I can assure you, there is big game hunting on most of these plantations... On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.
