I have never really used Winchester ammo much, but am interested in hearing what the rest of you think about it.

How does Winchester ammunition compare to other brands for accuracy, consistency, reliability, and on-game performance??

Thanks for your interest!!

i dont much care for winchester ammo. anything that aint the "premium" stuff is terrible. it could be because i got a bad lot of ammo or just got the bad box out of the factory, but my total experience with the nonpremium is not very good. premium stuff is ok, but i'm more of a Federal fan if i dont reload for it.

There is nothing wrong with the Winchester Fail Safes, if they will shoot OK in your gun.

I have never had a problem with Winchester rifle ammo. It has always performed without failure.

Thanks for your replies. A local store has some on sale, Super-x, and I may pick some up.

Anyone else have experience with Winchester Super-x??

I have used a lot of the Power Points years ago with good success. The Silver Tips are OK in medium speed cartridges, but not in higher speeds. The last time I bought any was probably 15 years ago, and I only shot deer and coyotes with them. I handload almost exclusively, but the Power Points are very similar to Remington's Core-Locks IMHO.

Hi Aaron
This was 1994, since then I have only used reloaded ammo.
It was not silvertip that I remember but there was also a large red "X" on the box. The weight were 170gr (or maybe 175 gr).
Hope this can be of help for you to target down (and avoid)the specific load if it still exist/

Hi Aaron. Ive using W-W ammunition (handgun and rifle) and for me is just fine. I know that in old calibers like 7 and 8 Mauser can be a little "light", but once you know that, the problem gone. And brass is also fine: About seven years ago I formed 100 cases of Winchester .270 W into 8 Mauser and still I shoot them. I repeat, for me they are one of the best.
