For non-US residents, who wish to travel to the States with their firearms, look here: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/form6nia/index.htm Here is a somewhat legalistic FAQ, that also covers part of the same issue (and more - trust the Government ): http://www.atf.gov/firearms/nonimmigrant_regfaqs.pdf This could come in handy for people travelling to the US to go hunting etc. Hope you manage to surmount the bureaucratic hurdles! - mike

Mike You want hurdles? Try transiting the US with firearms if You are a non res. Tried to get across to Canada last year for a hunt. After much viewing of requirements, eventually decided to fly straight across from UK rather than taking a cheaper route that bounced thru the states! Wonder if they have that nightmare sorted yet? Yup, know about that one - what a pain in the posterior! As far as I'm aware, this has still not been sorted out. Although the US import papers are free (in contrast to the Canadian paper work), ATF expects to take 6-8 weeks to proces your application... - mike

Here is the equivalent website for visits to Canada: http://www.cfc-ccaf.gc.ca/en/owners_users/fact_sheets/visitin.asp Remember NOT TO SIGN your application before you hand it in (in TRIPLICATE) at the border - somewhat strange requirement, but there it is. The cost for the Canadian import permit is Can$50 - but at least the permit will be issued upon entry. You can also transit Canada with a firearms (in contrast to the US). Although the US system has been slightly improved since I looked last year, I probably still prefer the Canadian system (in spite of the $50 fee). - mike
