Been a subscriber off and on for 50 years. They just published their 50th anniversary edition.
Outside of Sports Afield, not a better collection of hunting/fishing journalism out there.

Your thoughts?

I been given copies many times over the years.

Like many magazines the amount of adds or stories adds is stifling.

Lots of nice picture.

I used to be a Gray’s subscriber, but not anymore. When Ed Gray started his magazine, he offered Life Subscriptions to anyone willing to write a $400 check to help him get his magazine off the ground. In exchange, he offered a literal life subscription. As in, forever. So I sent him $400.

I’ve got most of the Grays issues from inception until Ed Gray sold his magazine. The new owners didn’t honor the subscription deal, so I’ve never seen a single issue since the new owners took over.

I should put them all together and offer them for sale. I doubt I’ll ever read any of them again.

Just received my copy of the 50th anniversary issue. I have been a subscriber for many years. In my view, it's the best, including "The Big Three" in their prime.

There is an article in this issue I highly recommend. It's a brief history of the business of hunting and fishing magazines, written by David E. Petzal. Many of you will know Mr. Petzal as one of the best "outdoor writers" in the business. His name still appears on the masthead of Field & Stream.

As Mr.Petzal explains, by all accounts Gray's should have failed. Yet here it is, 50 years later. I hope it goes on for many years to come.

I was a charter subscriber, and having taken a class in magazine editing and design with the late Dwight Schuh in journalism school at the University of Oregon, I was most impressed by their editorial decisions, layouts and font choices. I eventually lost interest, but am pleased to hear it is still in publication after 50 years.
I always considered the Double Gun Journal to be in the same elite class with Gray's.

I just received my 50th edition of Gray's Sporting Journal the other day. Excellent articles!

I subscribed off and on over the years and I must admit, THIS issue is one of their best.

(I also hated to see the DGJ go under and am glad I have every copy made in the Cote tenure.)

I do hope GSJ continues on for a LONG time!
