What would make a good 375 bullet for North American game from a 375 H&H?I would be using it mostly on small blacktail deer, black bear, and *possibly* elk.I would like to shoot the Hornady 300 grain BTSP,but the Browning I will be getting will not stablize these with it's 1 in 12 twist.I would also like to stay away from bullets of 250 grains and under. So basically I'm looking for a good bullet between 260 and 300 grains that will expand on deer and black bear and won't break the bank.I've heard bad things about the Hornady 270 grain SP.Would the Hornady 300 grain RN expand on deer and black bear?If it did it would be perfect as it would still shoot flat enough for 300 yard shots and it quite cheap compared to Nosler Partitions. ------------------

Try the 270 grain Speer. They have been very accurate in my .375 H&H rifle. I haven't used them on game, but I see no reason why they would not be superb on deer, antelope, black bear, caribou, sheep, goats, and such -- anything of 500 pounds or less, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them on elk or moose. Maybe if I were going against Kodiak bear I'd want a premium bullet such as the Nosler partition or Swift A-frame.

What about the 260 partition, or even the 250 Sierra boat tail? Light for sure but the 260's work pretty well on elk and deer. I really like the 300 Sierras too, VERY accurate and they open up pretty easily. FN

The 260 grain Nosler or the 250 grain Swift. in my experience the 250 grain Sierra's are too soft for elk.

A better question is try to find one that wont work in a 375 H&H...I can't..I thought the 250 Sierra would surly be soft but not so it just gives perfect mushrooms on elk time and time again.. Remember 300 grs of failure is deadly out of a 375 H&H.... ------------------

I really wonder if you "need" that much. A buddy of mine whacked a black bear with a 300 gr out of his .375 and pulped the entire fore-end. He used 250 grainers and they worked just fine. He works in the bush all day last time I saw him, but he should be home at night at 250-344-5728, in Golden, BC. His name is Ray Bird, and he's a big, shy friendly fellow. Say "hi" from Bruce MacAdam if you call him.
