Folks,

I just returned from the Colony area of NE Wyoming where I was on a private land antelope hunt with 2 clients. Even with the gumbo mud we managed to take 3 nice bucks and 3 does in about 1.5 days of hunting.

The ranch is 30,000 acres and this year will host a total of 7 antelope hunters. You can only imagine how undisturbed the antelope were. The ratio is about 1:1 with some groups we saw having 4-6 mature bucks in them. A 14"-15" plus buck is average but the mass tells the story with cutters going over 7". B&C scores should be 75-80 points.

Accommodation where very comfortable in the ranch house with the owners and the food is wonderful. Another option is staying in Belle Fourche, SD if you like a little more privacy and then driving the 20 miles to the ranch each day.

I shot a 257 Roberts with handloaded 120 gr. NP and found it about perfect particularly since the shots were not very long(100-260 yards). The clients shot a 308 with 165 gr. NP and a 25-06 with 120 NP handloads with similiarly good results.

This ranch and 2 others one in Kaycee and one 20 miles south of Gillette are all hunted exclusively by the same outfitter who actually does most of the hunts himself. Trophy quality is virtually the same and the draw is basically 100% in all areas. If you might be interested in one of these hunts for next year contact me and I'll send pics and references.

Regards,

Mark

Jamie Belknap and her first antelope 79 B&C

My best to date

Rob Lyttle and nice 15" goat from previous hunt.

John's was a little short of horn but the freaky 7" plus cutters made him a unique trophy.

Each a nice trophy. I too was in the NE WY area last week mule deer hunting. It got a bit dicey with the melting snow and subsequent rain. Luckily, the wind picked up and dried the place down so movement on foot and in vehicle was manageable. Hope to be able to go out next year for antelope as we saw several nice bucks.

Hey Mark it sounds like you had some good hunts and the weather looks nice as well.

The goat tht the young lady shot, are you saying that is the 79er?

Thanks

Yes Jamie's was 79 B&C. I took several pictures of that antelope and I was quite disappointed as none of them did it justice. It had 6.5" cutters and good mass all the way plus a lenth of 14.5. Mine was a little longer but lacked the big cutters and mass so came in about 77 points which is about an average buck killed there.
