Wyo. official supports Yellowstone grizzly hunts

POWELL, Wyo. -- A Wyoming wildlife manager says he supports hunting grizzly bears now that the population in the Yellowstone National Park area has reached the highest level in decades.

Researchers said last month that more than 600 grizzlies roam the Yellowstone area of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

That's more than three times the number in 1975, when hunting was outlawed and the species was placed on the endangered list.

Mark Bruscino, supervisor of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department bear management program, tells the Powell Tribune that he favors hunting to manage the grizzly population.

Bruscino says he and his department support the bear recovery program, but the best habitat areas are now full and bears are moving into marginal areas.

I think you'll find Mark has lots of local support. I don't know anybody here in the area that thinks there are too few bears or that they should not be hunted. The Feds are the problem here.

Anytime wildlife starts killing humans, it's time for a hunt.

Agree completely. Just got back from shipping some cattle out of that part of the world. Everyone I talked to up there seemed to echo what Mark just said.

I just found out there is a association in Wy called Yellowstone country bear hunters association in cody wy that is all about removing the griz from the list and supporting all hunting.. Its about time someone takes on just a few things at a time.Remove the griz and wolf and have them start paying for them self and stop paying for them. Check them out if interested......
