OR MAYBE not. Question, in an attempt to simplify life, pick the "one best" all around bullet wt/shape/construction you would use for all occassions. The one bullet that you would load to "go for it". What velocity would you move it at? A short "why" that choice would be instructive. .30 .338/340 .35 9.3mm .375 .404 .416 .458 .470 .500

.458 350 gr Hornady FN out of Marlin 1895 at 2150 fps. For some reason this shoots 1" @100yds after I lapped the bore. 1,5-5 scope. Relatively flat up to 150 yds, good for moose and whatever smaller comes. Almost picked an -06 but... nope.

Although it's just theory (so far for me), from deer to at least elk-- the combination i've been drooling about the most would be a Rem. Sendero .300 RUM, with the 200 gr. Nosler Accubond @ max. velocity. When i ran this across my ballistics program, it has more energy at 600 YDS. than a friends 6-284 with 95 gr. Partitions delivers @ the muzzle-- amazing! BUT, my 1st love is really single shot pistolery soooo... How's about a custom XP (or Striker) in any of the 3 biggest factory WSM's, with any of the 3 Accubonds again.

LAWCOP, Your question is a little vague but I will try. If you are hunting on this side of the pond for game animals up to and including the large bears my setup in .338 WM with 230 gr. Fail Safes is the perfect one gun does it all for me at 2800 fps. For me it is accurate and has plenty of power. Most of my hunting is inside of 250 yards. If my shots were consistently long I might be tempted to look at a .340 Weatherby. If I was going to other parts of the world and I wanted one gun to simplify life, I would go with a .376 Steyr Pro Hunter with 300 gr. North Forks. at 2500 fps.

savage49494 are the failsafes factory. Have you chrographed them. Out of a couple differant 338 mags I can only get just over 2600. I know the factory says more but I think that is wishful thinking. But then each rifle is differant.

The word "perfect" takes in a lot of territory when it comes to hunting bullets. The one bullet that fits my own personal definition of "perfect" more than any other is the Nosler Partition (NP), and I especially like the 130 gr. NP in the .270 Winchester, the 180 gr. NP in the .300 Winchester, and the 250 gr. NP in the .338 Winchester. For typically superb accuracy and predicatable terminal performance at a fair price, the NP is usually the first bullet I turn to when I work up a hunting load for a new rifle, and it's usually the bullet I turn to for most of my big game hunting needs. It just-plain works..... I've used several of the other premium bullets for a fair amount of hunting, but I like Nosler's year-in and year-out consistency and high quality better than any other manufacturer's premium hunting bullet. I've shot the Partition through various rifles for a lot of years, and it seems as though the more I've used it, the more I've come to appreciate it for what it is. I can't say that about most other hunting bullets. AD

quote:We think alike. I've got a 300 RUM. When the AccuBonds hit the market I promptly bought four boxes.... Haven't had time to play with them yet though.

" The truth is out there " , seek ye first the 210 XLC , then gainist thou a .338 , thus becoming the hammer of doom . Thou art now armed with knowledge , now go forth Grasshopper , do these things and be ye healed. Sorry , I'm just havin a fun .... 210 XLC at 3100 fps. from .388 An accurate short/long range hammer at more than decent velocities. Handles anything in my woods with great authority.
