Any Oregonians out there that can briefly state what a Washingtonian can get over the counter in OR ? I passed thru the NE corner of the state on 82/84 and what beautiful country it is. Would just like a second opportunity on a deer in a season and get out on my horses and enjoy a hunt for once. Probably not interested in Elk, just bear and mulies. I had a regs booklet but lost it. Computer too slow at 28.8K to do much good.

Any of the crappy hunts with minimal chance of success are over the counter. In the east half of the state you can buy a spike elk only tag. All Cow and Doe tags are draw. On the western side you can hunt Roosevelt Elk or Blacktail deer over the counter in most units. The success rate runs pretty low due to terrain and hunter pressure. Its Probibly the same story as Washington. Draw apps need to be in by April 15 each year. Thats the only real way to get a good tag.

Go a little farther and into Idaho. Idaho is much more " user friendly" for hunting from out of state and has better opportunities than the NE part of Oregon. YOU were just 25 to 30 yrs too late for the good hunting there. Before F& W screwed it up, and we "needed" to have cougars in our backcountry to satisfy the tree huggers. Now Wolves are also crashing the party. Government: HOW to RUIN SOMETHING. seafire
