I have 8 spring black bears available in Idaho. The outfitter only takes 2 hunters at a time and offers 4 hunts in May. There has been historically a 100% shooting oportunity and 50% of the bears are color phase. These hunts are 5 full days of hunting over active baits for $2350. Accomodations are in heated tents with home cooking.

Only one bear but there will only be one other hunter in camp. Also these hunts are as stated 100% shooting opportunity which is not a claim most outfitters can live up to. How often on a spring hunt is hunt too early or too late?

Too early or too late? Well, that depends on where you are I guess.

I was in NB on May 8 last year for a week. That was about a week too early, but when I got to Alberta the following week, the bears had been hitting the baits hard since May 1.

When an outfitter makes a 100% shooting opportunity, what exactly does that mean? Does that mean on one evening or every evening? I'm not overly concerned with the percentage of opportunities because there are too many variables. It's hunting. I'm good with that.

I'm already commited to NB and AB back to back beginning May 22. But I considered something the first week of May.
