| Hi Mark. I'm not sure about the hunting status of caribou in BC, so I'll let another poster comment on that. Here in the west, Yukon and North West Territories would most likely be able to accomodate you. In the eastern half of the continent, Nunavet, Quebec, and Labrador (including Newfoundland) would all be likely places for those two species together. I'm not sure what's legal to hunt in northern Ontario (I haven't hunted in Ontario for a very long time), so perhaps there as well. If trophy size matters, I would vote for the Yukon or NWT (biggest moose, usually). Hope this helps. I'm also sure there are parts of Alaska where these two can be hunted together, but I believe that a CDN hunt would be a more economical option, account of the lower value of the CDN dollar. - Dan |

| Mark....My partner and I nearly booked a hunt just like that in Northern BC in '94... It was a 2x1 hunt for moose and mountain caribou, a horseback hunt where you basically glassed UP for caribou, and DOWN for moose.. We ended up deciding to do a NWT hunt for caribou instead...
I no longer have the info, but if you check with some BC outfitters that offer MT caribou hunts you can probably find something that you like...
Also, Newfoundland is a good option if you are not interested in big antlers... There are lots of outfits there that offer combo moose and caribou hunts that are probably the cheapest you are going to find...There's also a chance for a big black bear on some Newfie hunts.. |

| If a combination hunt for moose/caribou is what you're looking for, the man to talk to in B.C. is Norman Day. He outfits fly-in horseback hunts out of Telegraph Creek, which is in the northwest corner of the province, right behind the Alaskan panhandle. This area has a good population of moose in the lower elevations, and maybe the highest concentration of caribou in B.C. in the upper elevations. The country is beautiful, very remote, and it receives very little hunting pressure. I have not hunted moose there, but I have done a DYI fly-in hunt ( residents don't need guides) for caribou in the plateau country north of Telegraph Creek, where Norman conducts his hunts. Norman is a good man and is highly recommended by his fellow outfitters and former customers. Phone number is 250-235-3070. |
