Folks,

I succumbed to the moment at last Saturday’s local SCI chapter fund raising dinner. I didn’t plan on buying a hunt while there and was just going to have a good time.

My wife and I were looking over the list of auction items and discussing them with our fellow tablemates. One item that came up was a Spring Bear hunt in the Sawtooth’s in Idaho. The deal also included $500.00 credit for taxidermy. One of the gentlemen was talking about bidding on it.

The bidding started at $1000.00. I looked at the fellow who was talking about bidding. He was looking another hunt in the catalog and he seemed to have lost interest. Noone else was bidding. I looked at my wife and she said go for it, so I bid $1100. A few second later I was signing the papers.

So I broke one of my personal rules and bought a hunt without knowing much about the outfitter. But it was a deal. Basically $600 for six days of hunting in a tented camp.

What this is all leading up to is this… I did a search on the hunting report site for Korell Outfitters and found a couple of cougar hunts that got very high ratings.

I was wondering if anyone here has hunted with Korell Outfitters (Chris Korell). If so, what is your opinion?

FWIW, Here's a link to the hunt.

Thanks!!

-Steve

Steve, I don't know that specific outfitter, but I do know the Sawtooth Wilderness area enough to know there are some mighty fine Black bears there.

Also, I see his listing says, "Big Cats." There are some really big mountain lions in Idaho, so if you're wanting a good lion, you might ask them how much it'd be to add one to your hunt, so long as you're already there. The Mountain Lion season runs from Aug. 30 through March 31, in that area.

If you go in April, of course, the season would be closed.

L.W.,

Thanks! I like your suggestion to piggy-back a cougar hunt onto the bear. However it is a Spring bear hunt, so I don't think that it'll work out. I'd like to try and keep it a Spring hunt as it help break the SPring/Summer hunting drought. It will interupt my white water trips, however...

Take Care,

-Steve
