New world record P&Y elk.

kudu56New world record P&Y elk.
I was talking to my son, who is guiding in Utah, and he said a 443 elk was shot with a bow recently near Holden. That should do the P&Y record. If I get any pics I will post them. I wonder when the magic number will hit 500!

I remember when a 300 was a good elk. LOL!

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

kudu56As far as I know this one was a public land Utah bull. Last year he was in the 390 class. There have been a score of 390 to 410 bulls taken in Utah in the last couple of years.,
I am not even sure if there are any fenced elk ranches in Utah.

Desert SheepThere are high fence hunts in Utah. Rulon Jones - former Bronco player has one called Broadmouth Canyon Ranch in Liberty, Utah.

kudu56I talked with another guy from Utah today, I guess it is for sure and public land elk. A few are saying it was off a hay field, but wild. The sheds from last year were 390+. Still no pics of it. There are video of it alive before season, and quite a few shots after it was shot. Some photos will surface I am sure.

muygrandeA beautiful bull. Thanks for the pic

MACHope it is legit. It would be nice to see a regular Joe and someone besides Chuck Adams get a record.
Nothing personal against Adams mind you, but he is kind of irritating with his World Record after World Record mentality.

MCWhile the bull in the link is an incredible animal (scoring over 405 b&c), it is
not the record bull.
The "Record" bull scores over 440, killed on public land. It was shot with the aide of an outfitter who has a certain stigma surrounding their operation. Usually there are 2-10 subguides and spotters on the higher $$$$$ hunts. Babysitting the animals is commonplace and intimidation has also been used. BUT, it was killed with a bow and arrow, so there had to be more hunting than some of the point and shoot rifle fiascos.
Does B&C or P&Y allow radios and the sort to be used in "fair-chase" entries?...............

SDhunterMC & others,
That is why I could care less about score anymore. There is way more to a hunt than the final score, although some hunters have a score only mentality.
I hope that it truly is a wild elk taken under fair chase. But then, I am a realist.
I am afraid the days of regular Joe Hunter on a DIY hunt shooting a world record are pretty much over.
There is too much money, prestige and ego stroking to allow that to happen anymore.
Already the story is supposedly getting out. hay field, outfitter guarding elk etc.
It may have not been a fenced area, but my guess is the elk in that area are habituated.

kudu56443 is what I heard!

yukon deltaThe use of radios is not allowed in record entries. In some states, it's just plain illegal. I would be curious to see the elk in question.
Understood on the Adams thing...but he has shot some huge elk. It will just motivate him to get another one. I think he has held that record twice.

Gee, you must be talking about USO and their tactics. I would love for them to try to intimidate me when I'm hunting on public land.
